Sandown 2005Many years ago I started to build a 5" gauge Coal Tank with drawing and casting supplied Chris Rayward of Hotspur Designs.

Due to health problems I sold all of my machines on Ebay and the Coal Tank was sold to a well known steam dealer unfinished.

A few months later I was contacted by a new owner of the Coal Tank who said that he intended to finish it, and he sent me a photo of it on show at the Sandown ME exhibition, since then I have lost all contact with this man.

I would love to see this engine in its finished state and if anybody knows the owner I would love to hear from him.

The photographs show the engine just before I sold it and the other at Sandown.COAL TANK

Good luck in finding him and the Loco Bert, I'd be trying to get it back if it were me it looks superb. I would at least have to have the above photo (and one of it finished if possible) framed and hanging on the wall somewhere...

Cheers

Garry

Thanks for the support Gary, I don't think I could ever afford to buy it back but I would love to have a few pictures of the Coal Tank that I started to create.

Hi Bert I know how you feel. I sold a 262 Betty under the same conditions. I had finished mine. Last time I saw it was for sale on a web site from a steam company in the Durham area who in no longer in business. We do things for the right reasons and then regret it!

Hi Al, the Coal Tank is not the easiest loco to build due to the amount of detail,

but help is always at hand via email or phone from the designer Chris Rayward.

I did not find any errors in his drawings.

Please take a look at his website.

Hi Garry, Its been a month now since I made an appeal to trace the Coal Tank,

and so far nothing, not even a hint yet I feel sure that somebody, somewhere

will have seen it.

I enclose a photo of a finished Coal Tank, this engine was built by Chris Rayward

of Hotspur Designs.

Hi Bert

That is a gorgeous looking Loco in the photo. I've been wondering if you had any success in finding yours and am sorry to hear you haven't.

I don't know what other avenue's you have tried but I think a new thread asking for by name the new owner to contact you (the one you lost contact with) would be a good idea as someone may recognise the name and set things going (I'm assuming you would still have his name)? I would put the gentleman's name in the thread title and area he lives / lived if you know it.

If you are interested in having a framed copy of the photo you do have of the Loco under construction - if you don't already have one that is, I can size for you so that it will fit in a frame of your choosing. Even the low res copy on this site would look good in a smallish frame - 5 x 7 / 10 x 8 maybe. If you can email me the original so much the better. I would do so if it were mine. When you find the original and finished Loco then they would make a matching pair - if you get two frames the same..! - [Just in case you''re not sure how to go about it, not everyone does...]

Just let me know if so...

Cheers

Garry

Garry, For the life of me I cannot remember the name of the chap who owns the

Coal Tank, all I can remember is that he lived in the London area and worked at

the Patent Office.

Many thanks for your kind offer for the photo, I am fully equipped with computer,

scanner and printer so its no problem with photographs, but it is nice to know

that people are willing to help.

Hi Bert

Thats a shame, must be very frustrating. It looks like the patent office only has a small office in London (the main one is down here in Wales now) - so may be worth contacting them. Can't do any harm - they may send a 'round robin' around the office for you...

Don't give up!

Address...

IPO

1st Floor

4 Abbey Orchard Street London

SW1P 2HT

Main email address for both offices

Cheers

Garry
