17 forum posts | Can anyone give me an idea on where to find kits and plans in metric ? I know you will all say its easy to convert from imperial but after a stroke some years ago I prefer to stick to metric. |

What type of model are you looking for? there are not many loco or traction engine kits in metric but if its stationary steam or IC engines then I should be able to come up with a few. An idea of what size model would also help as a small wobbler may not be anygood if you were looking for a 4" traction engine. J |

Nick Feast's Q1 as written up in ME is metric, but he does use some inch fittings. I've also got plans for a 2-6-2 in 3-1/2" gauge from the Dutch Modelling Group. (DB23) Now, these are locomotives, but the Dutch group **LINK** has all kinds of plans in metric. Jason has shown past knowledge in Continental stationary engine plans/kits, so he's a good resource, IMHO. |

17 forum posts | Thanks all I am more into the idea of a traction engine eventually and would like it to be a Foden due to family links several generations ago to Foden. I have found a plan on the net for 2 simple stationary engines and made a start on one. My background is as a clock maker so anything involving clocks goes down well. I intend to make the depthing tool shown in the last 2 MEW. |

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | I think you will be stuck with imperial on the Foden, there are a few of the traction engines from LSM that have metric drawings as an option if its Road Steam you are after. Things are a bit better on the stationary steam front. Several of Anthony Mounts more recent designs are in metric and available from either Bruce Eng or Cotswold Heritage. As John hinted to above our continental friends are almost exclusively metric have a look at the offerings from TS, Bengs, Atelier, etc. If you want to make from scratch there are a good number of designs here at VTH or if you register with MEM forum there are quite a few free plans in there drawings section, I think a couple of Stewart Heart's lads and Dads series are there too. 17 forum posts | I thought I would struggle to find a Foden Jason thank you for all the links they give me some ideas. I will try and convert a small plan set I think. I am a relative youngster so have a good few years yet so the Foden can wait for now. I found on line the metric Minnie so that's worth considering. When I can Neil I will get it made and send you the pics. |
