The selector arm detent positions in Norton type gearboxes are fixed, it would be quite difficult to alter the ratios, probably easier to make a new gearbox. |

Kenneth, there was only one sort of gearbox, changes from Imperial to Metric threads was done by use of external changewheels on the banjo arm. As Daveb says, there was a complete Metric conversion set available, which included a different banjo arm to hold the changewheels. This was used in conjunction with a conversion chart. So to "convert" the gearbox, you alter the changewheels feeding the drive to it. Edited By Robbo on 17/11/2014 23:09:09 |

2742 forum posts 39 photos | Hello Kenneth and Chris If you are looking instead to convert Imperial to Metric pitch generating on a Myford gearbox equipped lathe, I can offer alternatives to buying the Myford metric conversion set which offers some advantages and retains the full use of the fine feed, a feature that is lost with the conversion banjo in place. If you would like more information send me a PM Regards Brian |
