Ok everyone first test with the newly made reverse tumbler. I had to replace roll pin with a larger 4mm one instead of 3mm to stop the handle rocking . The gearing is unknown for thread cutting at moment as I just wanted to see if it would motorize the saddle which it seemed to do . I don't know if it has built in stops yet to stop at end of the bed

Well after first tests with the reverse tumbler it was apparant th elathe has no auto stops be ware so you dont break a gear pin I re drilled my roll pin hole in the reverse tumbler to take 4mm pin as was noticing that the back section was movig slightly preventing neutral or no gear selection. Whith this done I made some new spacers to space the gears in line

ISTR there were a couple of threads on here recently about Drummonds found fitted with homemade stops that tripped that handlever that pokes out through the bed on your early model. Consisted of a threaded rod attached to the carriage with a moveable piece on it that tripped a lever mounted on the side of the bed and moved that handle. if you do a site search for Drummond you should find it.

It's a very handy thing to have - standard fitting on my M-type - but can't be used for screwcutting unless you mark the change gears as well so as to re-engage in the one right position. Very nice for cutting feed on long jobs though, or when working dangerously close to a shoulder or the chuck.

Hi Martin, I think the thread Hoppers referring to was titled Drummond oddities , you may remember it. I usually read most threads to do with these old flat bed Drummonds and thats the only thread ive seen with pics of an auto knock off feature . For what its worth as regards to speed, a top speed of 600ishrpm and a low speed of about 100 rpm,if you dont get the low speed down to 120rpm or less its going to be a bit of a problem when you want to use it with the back gear engaged , as in screw cutting.............b

To any moderator, Martin has more than one post running for this lathe saga, would it be possible to get them combined so they all appear under one heading ( so we dont have cross refference to other threads he has posted ) as it makes it difficult to see what advise has already been given..............b                                                                                 correct speeds are given, my first post this page. by low speed  i mean direct not through back gear, i think we are having trouble with terms used used to convey the correct information.........b
