It would be interesting to know what % of the goods that ARC sell into the EU is actually made in the Uk. Very little one might wonder But then I may be very wrong. If i am then that is bad for the UK because it is lost manufacturing.
Probably none, but then how many products are actually manufactured in the UK, built with UK tools and machines and by British people? I really doubt there's any piece of electronics, tooling or clothing in the planet which is not made entirely or partly in China. I went on a tour of Axminster Tools and they make a few nice products in Axminster on their Japanese CNC machines! |

** . This may be irrelevant [and if it is, then I apologise], but : In the local Post Office, this morning, I was interested to see a lady trying to send a small parcel by Air Mail to Germany ... The Post Master declined, on the basis that the service is not currently available. MichaelG. Hi Michael, It is relevant.. The Post Master has a booking system which will probably be stopping him from booking anything to EU destinations - be it trough Royal Mail or Parcelforce for heavier items. Ketan at ARC |

Per Capita GDP is also relatively meaningless if you go spend £127Billion on a railway line I would probably be wise to ignore this thread... but I can't help pointing out that capital projects like HS2 don't get counted on the national 'profit and loss' account as they are putting an 'asset' onto the balance sheet. This is why governments (of any colour) like to borrow and invest in huge construction schemes when they need to create lots of jobs and encopurage economic activity as it doesn't count against borrowing targets. ![]() 6956 forum posts 229 photos | Interesting point Neil. It is also why the water companies like to build more reservoirs (more capital assets on the books, more value in the company, more bonus) rather thatn use money to mentd leaking pipes. (more water passed, more 'production', buisness 'expanded', more bonus).

The main issue for most people seems to be our arrangements with China rather than the EU. I think we are going to have to see how that settles down over the year or two it takes to deal with Covid. Exporters are up the proverbial creek until we have stable export arrangements and that needs both politics and pandemic to settle down. So maybe this is the time to invest in restoration equipment, a good sharpener maybe?

erm the last reservoir built in this country was a socialist abomination finished in 1981 Erm, If Kielder Water is the socialist abomination in mind, the guilty man was Sir Edward Heath. I admit he was a bit wet! Colliford Lake (1983) and Roadford Lake(1989) were both completed by Mrs Thatcher. I don't recall her being particularly left-wing either! Dave |
