2147 forum posts 222 photos | I would have finished the 'V' block tonight but realised I'd made a daft mistake when setting the edges up, so they are parallel but slightly out from 90degrees to the ends. Of course, tonight I used one of the edges as a datum to cut the 'V' - so it too was at a slight angle to the ends. Not the end of the world and I was tempted to just let it go but I know it will just sit there and really annoy me (or come back and bite me again some day when I'm in a hurry and don't remember it). So I've re-machined the edges true and started to redo the 'V' to get it aligned correctly. Fortunately it's recoverable as none of the dimensions involved are that critical. As usual - not the machines fault - just the dumb operator. Regards, IanT

Hi all, if you wish to perform intermittent cutting with TC tips on shaper or lathe the grade you require is S6, a plain ie uncoated tip,... I have used 8mm square lathe insert tools with 9mm triangular tips on my shaper. And got a really dreadful finish after a couple of strokes. The problem wasn't damaging the edge, just the little screw coming undone allowing the insert to move. I couldn't do the screw up tight enough to stop it loosening - I think it was the return stroke that was doing it. I imagine brazed tips would be OK, but use HSS instead. Regards, Richard.

Also some of those torx screws aren't great quality and start to cam out without much use, especially the smaller ones. |

That sandblasting cabinet now resides in the Carport doing stirling work. Geoff - Another week to fortnight before left foot has repaired itself, meaning frustration is at the 100% level.
