837 forum posts 27 photos | Posted by John Stevenson on 19/12/2009 20:42:53: Plenty of errors as well, most of the editions I have looked at are not in sequence, pages all over the place. Vol 108 is not complete and only has 48 pages. I'd also noticed this - hopefully as time passes, and the errors get fed back the anomalies will get sorted out (hint, hint...). The other thing I'd noticed was that in the issues I've looked at, the pull-out plans haven't been included in the scans - issue 4 being a typical case in point. If they're available, it would be good to include these too, I would have thought. Any chance these could be added to the relevant issues? But hey, I'm not complaining too much - having done a load of heavy-duty scanning myself, I know how much of a pain it can be to organise, and to have got it all up on the site and working at all is quite an achievement. Nothing this big ever gets sorted out completely at the first go, and I'm sure that all these things can be sorted out. So, many thanks to the people that did it all, and whom I'm sure will fine-tune it too. |

I will try and get the drawings added in the New Year.
Maybe as a drawing only issue.

39 forum posts | So, if I read this correctly, I pay for a Digital Subscription and I can access all previous copies, electronically, back to Issue 001, but if (as I have) I've bought MEW in hard-copy since issue 001, I can only access, electronically, the last two years worth ?
And here was I thinking that electronic access would save me the problem of hunting out the hard-copy from my ME and MEW archive (boxes in the loft) when I wanted to check something quickly or refer to a back issue when away from home.
Couldn't you, at the very least, make access for subscribers available back as far as their original Hard-copy subscription ? (Especially if the Hard and Soft copy subscription number is the same, as it appears to be in the case of Pete L's) |

Well, that strikes me as a fault of "the system". With a modification, I'm sure It could be made to do it.
Unfortunately, when people say "We can't do that", they usually mean "We won't do that".
Shame. I'll just have to continue with retro-tech.

829 forum posts 1 photos | Keithmart, you are not alone they've vanished for me too. I can get the original set (from MEW #122 onwards) but all the earlier ones are gone. (as of about 25-30 hours ago). |

It is not a fault of the system. The system was never set up to do that.
As there are about 120 issues, we would need about 120 different lots of software so each subscriber got the right amount of back issues.
All 120 or so are in the one access directory, that is the way the system is set up, that is the way it works.
One price and access to all.
Subscribers allready get access to magazines etc that non subscribers don't.

I can still access them but that is expected as I am an administrator.
I don't know why you can't access them.
I won't be able to find out until January 4th.

39 forum posts | Hi David
When I said "fault" I should have said "shortcoming" in the service.
I have to disagree with you about 120 Issues = 120 different lots of S'ware. If that's the case, the Publishers really were sold a bad design.
All it needs is a Subnscriber database and one piece of Software to access the Issue Access Rights vs Subscriber Code using the data. After all, that's probably how the system already ensures that "Subscribers already get access to magazines etc that non subscribers don't." (including those who subscribe to e-issues)
I realise that the Publishers want to make the most money from their assets, but giving someone who has never bought a single hard copy, full access from Issue 01 for £29.00, doesn't strike me as fair to those loyal subscribers who got MEW to where it is now by buying every hard-copies (or even most of them) since Issue 01.

I was not aware that you could choose first or last paosting. Yes, does not appear to work.
Will request a fix but all are on holiday.
When MEW started, there was no way to offer digital issues.
The price is a reasonable compromise.
I said I would have all of the old MEWs put on line and I have.
Yes, they are not perfect, but we can sort that.
We could charge a lot more but I want it to be available to as wide a range of people as possible. The only people who lose out, are the people who sell MEW on Ebay. The System checks with the subscriber database to ensure only subscribers get access to subscriber content.
The website was custom built and I am aware it has faults.
Eventually they will probably be fixed.
You can't please all of the people all of the time.
regards David

Is there a list of Contents Page for the Digital MEW, other than the one contained in its respective issue. I know there is Colin Ushers' index.

829 forum posts 1 photos | Hi Steve Garnett, Just to confirm the Digital Archive access problem (or otherwise) could you post the link that you are using to that page so that I can verify if it works for me. It may be me (probably is) but I always have some difficulty navigating to that page from the home page so perhaps I'm just not getting to the right place. tia |

837 forum posts 27 photos | I just tried this again, to be sure - and it's definitely working where I am. The site's home page doesn't appear to load correctly at present, with all the stuff around the edge missing, but if you are logged into the site and it's remembering you, you should be able to jump straight to here and everything should be working. |
