Yes Wadkin did make or just supply a band saw blade brazer, for their large band saws, we had one at work. If a centre needed to be cut out in a large piece of wood, the machinists cut the blade, poked the blade through the hole, which had already been bored in the wood, then brazed the blade up again and carried on working. I silver solder blades as outful doger does above. Not always successful, but one can use up odd parts of blades that way. Interesting John, your the only person that I've spoken to thats heard about the wadkin brazer,I picked mine up from rufforth autojumble near york years ago. |

1228 forum posts 172 photos | Not a good weekend for mechanical saws!! So far, one Naerok blade break, one Hegner similar, one Axminster blade came off the wheels - fingers crossed, the trusty old Kennedy carries on regardless. The query is re. the Axminster - there appears to be a 'tyre' only on the drive wheel - is this correct? also, that 'tyre' is spongy, very loose fitting and appears to have absorbed cutting fluid (WD40 for ali). Any comments, please, from members who are familiar with the Axminster or similar 4.5" saws? TIA rgds Bill |

1074 forum posts 290 photos | I have the Axminster 4.5" - it's about 25 years old. Neither wheel has a tyre. Here's a couple of photos of the drive wheel - one with the vertical table in place and one with it folded away for horizontal sawing. |

Hi Gary, thanks for the details of your jig, as I said I made one years ago,I like yours better as you can awivel the clamps to apply a little tension to keep the blades tight together, also like the" angle grinding attatchment," even though I have the wadkin I'm going to make one like yours. |

1228 forum posts 172 photos | Just an update on my bandsaw problem (or one of them, at least!) I ordered a replacement for the Naerok from Trucut (as recommended). Slight delivery delay but now received and fitted and working well (fingers crossed!) Its other problem, the breakup of the 'tyres' was solved by utilising an old leather belt, slitting it lengthwise to correct width and glueing it in place with inch length scarf ing at the join. Used one of the modern 'glue everything' clear variety with cyano at the joins. There are SOME advantages to getting old and FAT!! Now to deal with the Axminster - tyre or no tyre?? rgds |
