Surely we could do better than this ...

Hello Michael, I direct the output of a air/acetlyene torch into the inlet of an aquarium air pump then couple the pumps discharge to a hand piece carrying a hypodermic needle, with plastic hose. By adjusting the air/acetylene torch's output you can get a stable flame on the hypodermic that will not burn off when you wave it around. If you like I will take a photograph of the set up. I use it for silver soldering chain links made from 0.005 " diameter bronze wire under a microscope, amoung other things. Regards, John . John, Many thanks for this ... Yes please; a photograph would be very useful. The aquarium pump sounds a good idea, for my 'gentle flame' requirement ... [does the gas degrade any of the components ?] MichaelG. 2011 forum posts | Only times I've needed a small flame I've used a blowpipe. Has anyone looked at the disposable gas ciggy lighters ? A small steady flame and seems very simple arrangement. |

I've had no reply from Bullfinch yet ... They're probably waiting for suitable words from their 'product liability' Lawyers. MichaelG.

![]() 25215 forum posts 3105 photos 1 articles | Michael, I was turning the regulator up and down in the video, it's only a cheapie from e-bay but gives very fine adjustment. I can get a consistant small flame but not really sure if it will be hot enough for your needs due to teh flame size getting larger as soon as you wind up the gas. |

I had assumed you were just using a tap, not a regulator I have yet to find any reference to the pressure required for these microburners, but it's looking like either an Acetylene generator, or a mini-Gasometer might be the best answer. I do have a very high spec. 'precision' regulator available, but I don't think it's designed for fuel gasses. MichaelG. . Edited By Michael Gilligan on 25/08/2017 15:27:54 |

![]() 56 forum posts 7 photos | Hello Michael, Hello Jason, I did not put the hypodermic needle onto the large torch's hand piece because the handpiece and its hose are cumbersome for the job. I used the compressor so as not to interfere with the big torch's mixing of the air and acetylene - I may well be romancing in a fools paradise. Regards, John
