What about these ceramic gas burners : do they produce more heat than spirit burners ? I was thinking of the small rectangular one (BIX 005) . Any idea of the burn time for the standard gas tank BIX015 matched to this burner ?

Brian, I used asbestos because it was there, my grandfather bought it with a whole lot of plumbing tools when he came to NZ for a holiday in 1952, the asbestos string was in with the petrol blow lamp. He was the head plumber at Brown and Polsens in Paisely (closed 2002), Scotland, Mum's home town.

I would use ceramic burners if I could get them, I use camp stove burners, some times modified, one has been in use for over twenty years in my second hot air engine, and shows now sign of deterioration, round for a vertical boiler, or make a new rectangular burner for a horizontal boiler.
