told me it had stopped working. When I picked it up, it was still extremely hot. So clearly technique matters as well. (he never did replace the drills - and doesn't get any of my kit now)!

I always insist on a 50 quid cash deposit if anyone wants to borrow anything

The speed with which the item is returned is amazing

Only one guy I know gets "risk free" lending, he does my plumbing etc and cares about stuff

Sounds like the Kango hammer I borrowed, worked fine and completed the job. Later the son came to me saying was not working so I dismantled it and as I did so all the hard insulation from the commutator fell out, try finding and costing spares for a Kango!

Haha, when I bought my Kango 950 it worked - but not for long. The previous owner - a right cowboy bodger - had tack-welded in a 1/4” mild steel bolt as the main crank-pin. So likely he bought it as scrap and sold it at auction as working. I was glad I hadn’t paid too much for it.🙂 Cost me over £15 for two needle roller bearings and a tube of lube (plus my time to make a proper crank-pin) to repair it.
