So I saw this video. The information is amazing. Just the subject on cutting tools. Even if you are a pro with a lathe I think this will interest you. 1 1/2 hrs long. Edited By Steviegtr on 19/01/2020 02:56:14 Sponsored by Tormach. The people who used a Chinese mini-lathe as a fourth axis for the Duality CNC mill. And employ women engineers and actively encourage girls to enter engineering. Neil Interesting. Thanks. I follow Motorcycle racing & the F1 cars. I see there are lot more women now in the garages. It's great to see. My friend who builds traction engines etc has a daughter. Actually she is my Goddaughter. At the traction rallies dad just leaves her to it. She is brill & dad has taught her a lot. She has worked as app mechanic for a while & soon to go into the Navy as an Apprentice Engineer. Steve.

It’s difficult to to eliminate cultural factors but I do feel that men and women do have natural strengths that are not just nurtured. I hope that it is or will be possible for anyone to indulge in what interests them regardless of their gender. Cherry Hill has to be one of the best model engineers in a world that has a very strong old men population and she seems to have respect from all of us. Mike |

Sponsored by Tormach. The people who used a Chinese mini-lathe as a fourth axis for the Duality CNC mill. Not their finest hour. When I was buying my mill I seriously considered the Duality, but in the end decided against it. It would have added significantly to the purchase price, and to shipping as it would be a third box. In retrospect I'm really glad I didn't buy one. it just had too many compromises to be useful. They later brought out the RapidTurn whch seems much better thought out, albeit at a fairly steep price. I think there's someone on the forum who has one. In the early days the chap at NYC CNC made some really helpful videos on the Tormach in his garage in New York. But then he moved out to the mid-west and became a legend in his own life time. I've only had a quick skim of the video with no sound, but didn't see any evidence they'd actually measured the surface finishes to get real numbers. Andrew

![]() 7061 forum posts 719 photos | Just had a longer look with sound. That's an impressive lathe and some man sized feedrates. I regularly rough at 10 to 12 thou/rev but must try 20 thou/rev, although I think I'll be horsepower limited. Nothing was really said about finishes other than subjective comments, and rather annoyingly no close ups. Some finishes looked good, others like the rear edge of a badger. I would agree with a lot the of statements, including the controversial one not to buy cheap inserts from Ebay. Sadly they didn't get around to trying 304, which I haven't mastered yet. Andrew |

Yes & if you listen to Steve Jordan on you tube he raves about the ebay ones & bangood. But maybe he would. Wouldn't you if they were free. Steve. Which means you are implying that he is not telling the truth? I ignore all ‘influencers’ whenever and wherever possible. Emma of the ‘spare room workshop’ was honest with an appraisal of a ban good product and has never been invited to rate any more of their freebies. I’m not surprised. One needs to consider what they don’t say in their reviews - and what they don’t measure, too. I remember one who praised a stirling or flame licker engine - can’t remember which - but a very few weeks later did a series on improvements to the same engine kit because of all the faults he found (none mentioned in his review, of course). He basically rebuilt it as it should have been when he received it.🙂
