Posted by XD 351 on 01/06/2019 10:47:24:hopefully put an end to the painting on of a thick coat of lanotec to stop rusting in winter as the condensation can be horrific in winter here in western Sydney.
XD what causes this condensation? I get it in my shed about two months of the year as well. Usually in the dead of winter July/August I'll go into my shed and everything metal will be dripping/sweating with beads of water? I setup two fans on timers to go all night and this alleviates it. Moist air (high humidity),high dew point temp , cold air temperatures followed by a rise in temperature which means the machine can’t warm up as fast as the air around it . to stop it you either lower the humidity or keep the machine warm . 1025 forum posts 204 photos | I set up a gravity oil feeding system to the ways on my Myford. I keep the oil pot full when in use. I lower the pot to bed level between using it. It keeps the ways wet, and I wipe it down with a paper towel often. Works very well. |

Beginning and ending of every session of use. Beginning for lubrication. Ending for corrosion prevention. Edited By Hopper on 01/06/2019 01:01:41 Thats how I do it too. Leave them wet (ish). Helps me sleep better. |

Do other folks slather on neat oil like I do? I'm more likely to worry about it pooling up on the ways than them looking dry! I do too Neil, I actually enjoy cleaning the machines! |

(If only to get the image of a pot *under* the bed out of my mind!) |

1025 forum posts 204 photos | Here is what I set up. Re threaded the M5 to the ba # of the oil points. I found that the length of the tubes needed to be the same, or else the shorter tube side got most of the oil. Elevated to slowly feed down. |

2805 forum posts 219 photos | Neil Lickfold Thank you. That looks both simple and ingenious. I think your point about tube length would also apply to car exhaust systems. PS I am a fan of Rocol slideway lubricant; expensive in aerosol form but very effective. Edited By ega on 07/06/2019 11:24:40 |
