Apologies to everyone!

Somehow, I managed to incorporate the very error that started this thread, because it has cost me so much time and material, and led to my making up the spreadsheet.

Have checked and E mailed a corrected version of the chart to Neil who will post it as a PDF.

13 divisions SHOULD read "6 turns and 36 holes on a 39 hole plate"

This is correct as I have now cut a good 13T gear, and it went into service yesterday.

It can be customised to give solutions for any dividing head simply by changing the worm ratio and the numbers of holes available.

as an apprentice I spent a lot of time on a mill cutting gears and sprockets the rules were do the calculations and get them checked by another take a cut of the first tooth just through enough to get the full depth of cut index the blank around 360 deg. and see if you wind up in the grove as it were.Takes a bit of time ,a bit of stress and the treasure chest getting too full.the problem is getting the chief of staff wised up on dividing head calcs

There's an error in Howard's Chart on the 94 tooth entry. The plate should be C-47, not 49.

Not sure how to make this available on here and the usual procedures don't seem to work, but I have copies for anyone that needs them.

Seems reasonable as 94 is twice 47!

Actually the spreadsheet is correct! It's a typo in transposing to the pdf.

I don't have the document used to generate the pdf version and I don't think I can edit  it without spoiling the formatting.

Could you email me a corrected pdf, please Howard?

Arggh! I find this table so useful that last Monday I laminated my copy to keep it clean.

They say no good deed goes unpunished. Now I can't pencil in a correction...

EXCEL Spreadsheet and my original revised HV6 Chart (WORD) sent as E mail attachments, (once I'd found them!)

I have forwarded a copy of the revised chart to my vendor in NZ from whom I bought my RT. He has intimated that he will send it out to customers in future sales.
Happily, unlike Dave, I had not laminated mine yet! Laminating sure does help with the oily fingerprints in the workshop, not to mention pinning things to the wall so that they don't get lost/ scrunched up/dropped on the floor..
Neil.... to edit a pdf of that kind you need Adobe Acrobat... there's a small fee (surprise, surprise!), but it's very handy and easy to use and doesn't affect the formatting at all.

Just looked  -  Acrobat is £11.42 a month, that's nearly twice what I pay for Microsoft Office 365!

£20 a month on 'pay as you go'!

Good Heavens Neil, I din't pay anything close to that in NZ... just a few dollars a quarter..... I wonder why the discrepancy? Perhaps they take pity on us poor people down here in the South Pacific...

There I was reading MEW254 'an emergency repair' and there lurking on the bottom of page 23 - shock, horror, the Vertex HV6 table has errors! I've had my HV6 for many years and mainly use it for cutting gears on the mill. Obviously I have been lucky and haven't needed one of the teeth counts with an error. Cutting gears like this is laborious and an error is costly in time and rework effort. So, let me thank everyone who has contributed to rectifying this. I have dutifully downloaded the PDF and Excel files.

The old saying 'measure twice, cut once' applies. It pays to double check the calculations. It pays to read MEW too!

I will check the OEM table on my HV8 now.

Yes Howard,

I have found so many "Errors" with my 6" table that I no longer pay any heed to the "so-called-chart ",I tend to work it out instead. I dont know why they bother to supply these charts when they are not accurate,there is no excuse for it in this day and age. They are making these things long enough,at this stage to get it right.
