Note : The 1.5" bore No. 3 Morse-taper headstock spindle (bushed down to No. 3 Morse from something close to, but not actually, a No. 5 Morse)

That's a bu99er.!

Seems like the OP's best option then is to source one of the bore adapters and purchase the MT3 version of the link I provided on the last page.

I went from a MT3 ER40 collet to the one mounted on a backplate as it allows longer lengths of bar to be used as they can pass through the spindle. The Colchester lathe would have originally been supplied with the headstock adaptor.
