The UK introduced a “right to repair” law on July 8.

However, it does give manufacturers a two-year window to make the necessary changes to abide by the new legislation.

While for small amounts of data stored in the cloud may be true but as data volume increases for digital photos and video the costs can soon escalate.

To say hard drive back up has had it's day is simply wrong, NAS devices use drives and offer a level of fault tolerance such that in raid array data can still be available.

All hard drives fail it's just a question of when!

I have a NAS device with 4 x 8 Tb drives in raid 5 which gives around 21 Tb (you lose one drive in raid 5) of storage but do not treat it as a backup device and use an external 8 Tb USB drive for backups (currently sub 5Tb of data) which runs from the NAS as a background operation. Only files that have been added or changed are backed up once the initial backup is completed on a weekly basis. A USB 3.x drive directly connected is reasonable fast and should not take too long to back up but if there is only one data set then it is NOT a backup.

Neil, That's a little under the spec of my 2 year old Lenovo Thinkstation, i5 6 core, 512Gb nvme M.2 primary drive, 1Tb ssd, 32Gb ram, 8gb Radeon graphics card + 3 years on site warranty. Runs Autocad and photo editing software with no problems what so ever. Probably a little over kill but it should last a few more years.

I have no complaints with Lenovo what was IBM for both workstation and laptop.

When we moved house, I left the machinery moves to the moving companies experts. The machines were loaded onto a pallet and strapped to the pallet, then moved by pallet truck to a Luton style van with a tail lift, the van had tiedowns internally as it was a used for this sort of work. Easy loading/unloading but took an engine crane which I hired for £25.00 to place in the final position, so much easier when you have the kit, gone are the days I'm prepared to struggle with heavy objects.

He was trying to convince me running a three phase motor wired in delta via a 230v VDF would only give half the power and didn't even understand P = √3 × pf × I × V saying √3 is not used in three phase power calculations and he did boast he was chartered engineer come electrician. There's me just a marine engineer ( big ships) who know nothing, delete is a wonderful thing as I left him talking to himself

That is what I thought but had what has turned out to be an idiot on Facebook saying the power is halved but was using power=V x I rather than P = √3 × pf × I × V. I think I should have realised when the √3 was questioned.

Not that different to my setup other than mine has shielded cables and a filter

Does a VFD mean the power of a motor is reduced e.g. 3/4 hp motor running 415v three phase v same motor wired delta 220v three phase from a VFD?

Taking the motor out may be the best way to solve the key issue.

There are variations in the switch gear and a picture of just what you have may be useful.

As for an inverter not sure that would be worth the expense as you'd need to change the motor as well.

My AUD has been faultless for a number of years and it has done a fair bit of work.

I used SY cable and also have a RF filter on mine all fitted in a cabinet

Or the new battery is past it's best.

As I found out when it tripped the RCBO on the boiler feed with water in the motor.

Rad sealer will not work where parts move like diverter valves.

I'd be inclined to investigate just where the leak is, it could be something like the diverter valve if it's a combi boiler.

Once the location of the leak is identified and the faulty part found, you should be able to order the part online. Then get a few tools out and replace it having drained down the boiler first.

There are many videos on line that show how to replace parts so not that difficult to do and before there is the outcry of gas safe, it's not a gas issue just water side.

If you look at the two pictures I posted it shows the gears set in either direction, as I have a AUD the forward and reverse probably gets used more for saddle or cross feeds rather than cutting threads. Feed options are not available on a CUD.

Why would you want too reverse the lead screw unless you were cutting a LH thread?

I usually just quickley wind the tool out (noting the depth of cut) and stop the lathe, then depending on the length of thread either, leaving the lead screw engaged, wind back by hand or carefully reverse the machine taking noting that the chuck is screwed on.
