Hi Chris

Congratulation on getting a runner I bet your well chuffed, any chance of a few pics or a video

Compressed air can be a little tricky I've had my pipes crossed before now.

Cheers

Stew

Hi Stew

Will do - it's stripped down for painting at the moment so it'll be a few days

Hi Stew

I finally finished all the painting and reassembly. If the real thing ran at the speeds I got out of this little model it would have torn the building apart! Here's a pic you might like (not got to grips with posting to YouTube yet - strange the skills you have to acquire to get into engineering).

Incidentally, you mention a third engine in the series - did it ever get published? Thanks

Hi Chris

Your getting a nice little collection of engines there, I've recently been in touch with Diane and hopefully the third engine will be published soon.

Models do tend to run faster than full size its something to do with the scaling effect, the full size one runs very sedately you can see it running at the Northern Mill Engine Society at Bolton I think there's a video here https://www.nmes.org/

I've also sent you a PM

Her's a little taster of the last of the trilogy, its a little more detailed than the other three, and I've used a laser cut fly wheel I can give details of where I got it cut for those who are interested I have no connection with the firm just a satisfied customer.

And her's all three

Hi Stew

Thanks for the PM.

They've been interesting projects - my first two engines. Which means I've been learing a lot and making all the usual mistakes (I assume). I was thinking about a half-beam engine next so number three looks spot on.

Thanks again

Chris

Hi I have just about completed the first tried on air the other day could not get it to work at all, reset the timing nothing tried timing again 180 degrees nothing. Went back to it today working my way through how it should work following the air route.

I have not cut the top of the cylinder to meet up with the port hole, so when you put the cylinder caps on no air could get to the piston. I now remember I did not have a small end mill to cut this I was to order one , guess who forgot, carried on the build.

End mill now on order. Will let you know if and when it runs ( No I should say WHEN it runs)

Next is the horizontal , I do hope the third will be coming out as I am learning a lot. Stew, like to take this time in thanking you for the time and effort you have put into these projects much appreciated

If you ca't wait for the cutter then you don't really need anything special, just a cut across the spigot to remove a small amount of metal will do

Hi Jim Thanks for your kind comment and interest in the Mill engine. As for the air passage as Jason said it doesn't have be to fussy as long as their is a way through for the air it will work you could just use a small file or even a small chisel to make the passage..

Hi Philip

As Jason said the Grasshopper plans are currently being published in the magazine I hope you enjoy the build and the article.

If any one is having problems sourcing the laser cut fly wheel I can give them details where I got mine from I don't have any commercial agreement with my supplier just a very satisfied customer.

Stew

PS  I've just emailed the company who made the fly wheel for me to say that they may have some inquires for fly wheels I've also sent them my flywheel drawing the company is sales@lasermaster.co.uk

Stew

Looks to be a nice smooth runner.

I've made your video a bit easier to view.

Well done Dullnote

Runs nice and smooth and it will get better with use just requires a nice paint job. I hope you enjoyed the build.
