Thread: Inverter for Warco 1322 |

Chris.......i have recently converted my Warco 918 ( smaller than yours) to using a 3 phase motor and inverter. It has totally transformed the lathe's performance. I used a kit from Transwave and I am totally happy with their product and service. The conversion was quite easy .....full instructions supplied......and telephone adv ice if required. The most difficult part was making up an adaptor plate to fit the motor to the lathe...a couple of hours work.....but you won't even have that problem. I am sure there are other suppliers that are just as good but I speak as I find. Mick Thanks |

Hi Guys & Gals
I have purchased a Warco 1322 that is a 3ph version.
I only have a 1ph supply in my workshop so I need an Inverter.
The motor is a single voltage (440) 2HP version.
The lathe has a coolant sys and a light, and I will also fit a DRO soon.
I have read a few threads on the subject, and although I started reading full of confidence I have confused myself !!
Has anyone done this to a 1322 and could give me a steer please.
Cheers Chris

Thanks for your help guys.
I am now the proud owner of a Warco 1322.
Chris, I was going to ask how you fixed the "Yellow Background" issue but; having just quoted your post, I see it lurking there.
MichaelG. . Edit: ... but only visible when I'm composing or editing my response!! It doesn't show on my post; but there was a 'blank line' of Yellow at the bottom of your last post . ... I give up. Edited By Michael Gilligan on 23/11/2012 18:17:31 . And now, just to rub it in, it's visible in the edited version.
Edited By Michael Gilligan on 23/11/2012 18:20:05 Michael That is because I did quote the reply above me in the thread to try and avoid the yellow. I deleted the quoted post as it was un-needed as it were. You are now infected by the yellow fever
I give up too Edited By chris j on 23/11/2012 18:30:31 |

Chris, sorry missed this post before is scrolled down. I don't think I've ever come across them before so will have to examine their website. Lots on it but I wonder if it is stock they have or stock they will find in China after you've placed an order. Must be someone on here who is local and can go along and check them out. I did get in touch with them, and they had one 1322 model in stock, but I thought their delivery charge was excessive, and they were reluctant to do a dea, l so I went out and bought a Warco one today that came out of a Tech College and is in very good condition, almost new in fact. X is left to right motion, Y is back and forth. Z1 and Z2 refer to vertical motion (presumably the knee or head and the quill in machine with two vertical motions. Other axes would be likely to be rotation around one of the three (X,Y,Z) primary axes. Neil
That is what I understood on a Mill but this applies to a Lathe so I'm lost a bit ( as usual Chris |

Hi Chris, Not used their services but I have fitted a DRO system to my Warco GH1330, used the glass scale for the Z0 and magnetic scales for Z1 and X axes. All were purchased from Allendale (machine-dro.co.uk) and were supplied with comprehensive installation instructions. What make of lathe are you installing on? I am sure there are many here that can give advice etc as to the best way to install
It is not a difficult job, just one that needs a little patience and care CB Proaby a 1322 or a 1330. Why did you go for glass & magnetic I wonder ? Also what is Z0 , Z1 & X ? Thanks Chris |

Hi
Has anyone availed themselves of this installation service.
I am wanting to fit a DRO to a lathe and am a little nervous about doing it on my own.
Best Chris

Hi cris, In IE, try Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Browsing/Automatically recover from page layout errors with compatibility mode Ouch! You can also add model-engineer.co.uk to the list under Tools/ompatibility view settings/ Or for a test, set compatibility mode from Tools/ompatibility View: Hope that helps. Kai
Kai Thanks but if I can I'd rather not run a microsoft product on my mac if I can avoid it. I find they are so intrusive. I wonder if the next update to this software version might fix the problem as it's very annoying. I am trying to find some clues on the interweb. I may go into the applestore tomorrow to see if I can get some help Chris Chris. It must be something that you're doing (or fault with your Mac), to make the yellow background show up because a) it's obviously not happening for anyone else and b) it's not happening everytime you make a post, so it would seem probable that you're doing something different on occasions, like cutting and pasting from a Mac application, or something like that. Running Windows 8 here with Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 and no problems. Martin. Edited By blowlamp on 18/11/2012 23:34:19 a) That's true, I expect it is my end. b) It does happen every time I post, unless I am replying. Thanks though. Chris

I must admit I'm relieved to know the yellow box is accidental. I was worried that Chris was the sort of person who writes to their MP in green pen... I think they are HTML format commands: strong=bold, span = justify (I think). Neil How very dare you.
I am going to write to MHS and complain about this insult (In green of course)
PS re the Yellow, I notice when I reply to a post in the bottom left of the box is written body and the letter P and of course no Yellow, a clue maybe ? Edited By chris j on 18/11/2012 15:57:02 |

The fact that it won't drop trhrough my shed floor!! Weight and room were the issue as my garage has my woodworking machines that have to earn a living anything bigger than the 280 was out. If that was not a problem then I'd get a Gapped M300 or the late model gapped Bantam 2000 which has the same capacity but is slightly smaller overall, nice one on Home & Workshop at the moment. One thing I did read the other day is that on the similar gap bed machines from Chester if you remove the gap while it swithin the warantee period it invalidates teh warantee, would be worth checking the small print with Warco before you decide. J Edited By JasonB on 17/11/2012 21:22:39
That is a great excuse I'll give you that. I have seen the Chipmaster and the nice M300 without a gap. The trouble is that neither has DRO and I would also have to add the vat making neither of them cheap |

The 280 & 290 have a similar gear arrangement so you will need to play with some change wheels but really depends on how much screw cutting you are likely to be doing.
J So J what is it that you prefer about your lathe over say a 12 or 13. Chris
ps Thanks Phil & Jack The change wheels seem a pain although I'm not sure it will stop me. Phil what was your Mod ? |

Just a quick question.
When I am typing in this box at the bottom left is body - div and sometimes span or even strong.
Who knows what they mean ?

Ebay 271102861912 One of 4 ex- training establishment Warco 1322 machines with all original equipment for sale by same seller - asking £1900 each. Plus a 1330 in another listing for £2400 - all around £1000 under Warco list.
Finding a "nice" (as in "not clapped out, ex-industrial" Regards, Nigel B. I don't have a problem with Russian or Far Eastern equipment as long as they have a decent spec and reputation. I think the days of Britain being the leaders in Engineering are long gone tbh. |

Chris bear in mind that not all M300s have a gap bed which may restrict you on a traction engine as you won't fit a flywheel and final drive off a 3" engine on it J Good your on the case J - Thanks |
17/11/2012 18:18:44 |
I have spotted those Nigel but thanks for the tip.
I also have my eye on an M300
I think the advice not to rush is probably good advice.
Thanks Guys & Gals keep it coming.
