Thread: UK availability of 1/8" Dia shank End mill/Slot drills |
01/09/2020 20:26:54 |
Update - HSS cutters on a 1/8" diameter in Imperial sizes shank seem to be as rare as hen's teeth. No lack of choice of solid carbide alternatives on a 1/8" shank but my set-up is not suitable of running at the higher speeds demanded for use with carbides. However I have found a source of double-ended HSS Imperial cutters on a 3/16" shank available from Chronos which should do the job at the expense of modifying my current cutter holder. Many thanks to those who have made an input. |

Required for general use cutting BMS/Brass/Al - Not had much experience using solid carbide tools |

I should add that the cutters should be HSS |

Hi all - Anyone know of a UK source of 1/8" diameter shank endmills or slot drills? A search of the internet appears to show availability from China but not from the UK. Sought of thing I am looking for would similiar to the 3-fluted FCC range of cutters commonly availlable with 1/4" or 6mm diameter shanks. |

Problem solved - Have now purchased and experiment with the Part B Epoxy Hardener from a standard two tube epoxy adhesive pack sold for use about the home and can report total success! Costs incidently have been minimal as there are a lot of very good offers out there. |
Thread: How to rid the "Ask an Expert Seller" Pop-up |
12/08/2020 16:04:54 |
Blocking Pop-ups on Firefox does not have the required effect. There is a current thread elsewhere on the topic where a number of people are having the same problems where it is also being suggested that it is impossible to remove - watch this space |

Has anyone come up with a means of getting rid of the extremely annoying "Ask an Expert Seller" Pop-up currently being experienced on ebay? |

And mine............. |
07/08/2020 20:17:39 |
I am still waiting to receive something other than the automated reply from the subs office. They acknowledged my request for a monthly subscription hardcopy back in early July and I am still waiting to receive my first copy. I have no idea what issue this will turn out to be.....July, or August or September or a combination of all three....who knows? |
Thread: Using the Maplin (Dremel clone) for cutting tool steel |
07/08/2020 16:43:54 |
I have been putting my Maplin Mini-Grinder to use in recent days and two querries have arisen to which other users may well have the answers. Q1. I have noticed that when left plugged in at the mains but with the motor off, the body of the unit appears to run warm. Can this be possible as it is certainly comes as a surprise to me. Q2. Using the tool to carry out light grinding operations and inevitably applying some light loading on the front bearing I wondered how substantial the tool is under these conditions and just what care should be taken to avoid causing any permanent damage. Having said that it is a very useful device and I would not like to be without it. |
Thread: Taking a pair of wire cutters to a standard baseball cap |
04/08/2020 10:00:38 |
Wearing a baseball cap has always been standard issue in my workshop but I would agree that the problem is essentially a lack of upwards vision when wearing the cap in the 'sensible' position. The only time I would select the 'idiot' position would be when using a magnifying glass for close-up work or the like where the peak gets in the way of things |

Does anyone else have this problem when wearing the standard model baseball cap. Getting into and out of tight places such as the back seats of a car or perhaps a low greenhouse door etc wearing a cap I have found it it is all too easy to make contact with the top of ones head the results of which can be a nasty bruise or scrape. It might sound a sacrilegious action to take with such an iconic product but I now have got into the habit of taking a pair of wire cutters to remove the offending top-knot which is conventitonally held in position by quite a substantial metal rivet, some made from aluminium other times from steel leaving it in my opinion a much safer product to wear. Strangely enough, such an operation does not appear to affect the structural integrity of the cap in any adverse way and I feel much happier wearing it in confined spaces. |

The only radio 'interference' permitted in the workshop can only be TMS as far as I am concerned and I am the boss in my workshop! |

Hi - On the 8th July I received acknowledgement of my (UK) subscription to Model Engineers Workshop since when I have been waiting to receive my first issue, presumably that for August. Thought the whole point of a subscription was to get the copy before they hit the shops. Anyone else having similiar problems? |
Thread: Opions sought on using the USB Photo Stick for photo storage |

Many thanks to all who gave their time and views from which I gather that investing in a Photostick does not really offer very much over other (and cheaper) methods of saving JPEGs |
29/07/2020 12:36:22 |
Do they only work on JPEG files or can they also be used to store data files and the like? |
