Thread: MTP MILLING AND DRILLING MACHINE ZX7016 - Any one tried one? |

For sale new at £350 - seems too good to be any good. Anyone ever seen/used one? |
Thread: Drilling through pipe |
02/07/2017 21:05:32 |
Thanks all - good to know its not me being crap as usual....plenty to ponder |
01/07/2017 21:57:24 |
I often have to drill a hole at exact opposite sides in pipe ( copper boiler shell ) up to 6" diameter. No matter how carefully I set everything up - clamped to the mill bed - I find it impossible to enter the pipe at one side and drill on through to the other side without it going skew to a fair amount. Drill is 5.5mm, use a good countersink and careful set up. Any ideas on how to improve things? |

Thread: Did we go to the moon in 1969 |
28/05/2017 11:04:46 |
"Those who believe the moon landings were faked simply lack the intellectual capacity to understand the science that made it possible" What a thoroughly arrogant statement. I understand a great deal of the science which makes it extremely unlikely to have occurred.

making boilers on hot days isnt good! |
14/05/2017 20:48:50 |
Went back to Donny show to collect my boilers which had been on display on a trade stand and bumped into mr Wyatt...what a thoroughly nice bloke! I wish everyone were so nice. |
Thread: TIG welder Regulator/Flowmeter |
14/05/2017 09:54:45 |
I used to do this for a living and will confirm all of Peters comments. I dont use a flow meter as an experienced welder simply doesnt need one. And how do they do them for the money?? Im a little confused by Scrumpy's comment as there is never anything to clean up on my tig welds, but then Im not working on an oil rig. |

Thread: Simple Cad Drawing start-up..... |

I went down the same route as you and investigated pretty much every option. I didnt like any of them. I now use the design feature in Visio of all things and find it very simple to use. |
Thread: Bronze /Brass |
11/05/2017 14:22:34 |
there is a lengthy thread on here somewhere covering this - but it is difficult to tell. I can tell by the oxidation colour, brass looks brighter and cleaner than bronze. |
Thread: This monster arrived in our small harbour today |

Thread: Boiler |
08/05/2017 21:12:06 |
Hi Jason and all - dont know if you have already seen it but the Ozzy boiler fed (cant remember their correct title) have published test results of different boiler end plates under pressure, from fully flanged to just a plate plonked over the end of a tube and poorly silver soldered on - result...no sign of any failure in any joint even when it was evident that there had been no visible signs of solder penetration. Reassuring if nothing else! |
08/05/2017 13:23:48 |
Ive never checked this before but my 'industry standard' excel spreadsheet concurs with Jason's observation, there is a 20% reduction in operating max psi for a silver soldered joint (god only knows who comes up with these figures as if properly made it is at the very least as strong as the parent metal). |
Thread: What's the most dangerous tool in your workshop |
08/05/2017 08:18:57 |
I was feeling for a drill bit coming out of the bottom of a casting...drill bit came through and didnt notice for a second that my finger was in its path. Wend straight through my left index finger from side to side - missed the nail. There wasnt much of it left. At hospital they packed if full of some gel substance, bandaged it up and told me how utterly remarkable fingers were at repairing themselves! |
Thread: European steam fitting sizes |
07/05/2017 20:04:39 |
Ive also been asked to make pipe nipples for 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm pipe - these surely must be ID and as such dont help me at all... |

Hello
I am building a steam plant which will eventually be mated to w Anton Cristal steam engine. All of my stuff is imperial but I suspect that the motor will be metric. Anyone have any ideas what the sizes might be so I can think about how to connect them all up? Thanks. |
Thread: x2 belt drive conversion nightmare |
06/05/2017 08:18:43 |
There is a range of hi torque motors for these machines right up to 1400W....but at silly prices. Any ideas for an alternative?

Dont know the ratio but turned the drive pulley down as far as possible but still higher geared than the original gear box
|
30/04/2017 08:43:16 |
Im mostly trying to bore and drill copper which is prone to snagging no matter how much milk you throw at it. I love the quiet running but despite machining the small pulley down as far as possible it is still much higher geared than the original gearbox was and is now quite useless for me. I need a bigger machine! |
