Take care all.
Ed.

I havnt dared move away from my PLA printer as ive read that the resin ones are very difficult to master---SO please keep us informed on how it handles and please post some results, warts and all!

As a professional boiler maker I have been self isolating for several years with no sign of any change. And whats with the loo roll....your more likely to end up constapated than the other way round?

Thread: Wood or Charcoal

On my 7 1/4 I have always used one fire lighter and soaked charcoal mixed with anthracite. No issue with ash and it gets going very quickly.

Thread: Ebay Chancers
04/03/2020 00:07:55

and thats why i stopped selling on ebay = simply no money in it for me

03/03/2020 20:41:08

Gobsmacked is what I am. No one is having a problem with the sale, it just bewilders me why anyone would pay so much for a second hand boiler when a very simple google would allow you to see that it only cost £599 new. Its a strange world! Im in the middle of building ten of these, if I put my price up in line with ebay I would either be a lot better off or stuck with ten boilers no one wanted to buy. Think I will leave them as they are (theyre all sold...but the next lot ofr ten arent).

01/03/2020 23:26:48

£750.....recon I should put my prices up??? But selling on abay, i would rather leave it to others

01/03/2020 20:27:40

The postage price is fair provided its fully insured. Hermes UK with £300 insurance is about £18 for that boiler, add in box, time and packing material and it ads up. I (PSB) only charge the courier cost as I get to recycle boxes for free. I dont charge for my time or fuel to take them to the shop as customers seem to think you are somehow ripping them off if you do. As for the price of said boiler....£400 - £500 would be top dollar. It may be described as new but who knows what it might have been through, and both gas jets will almost certainly need replacing if its sat all that time (I have yet to figure it out but if you leave a gas jet sitting without use it will almost always block up over time. Oxidation perhaps?).

If I thought I could ask £400 just for cladding the boiler I recon I wouold have by now. I will be gutted if it actually sells !!

I dont know if to be impressed or outraged....**LINK**

only £995.....or you can buy a brand new one for £400 less !!

Thread: Copper Plating
26/02/2020 20:49:11

After soaking a great many boilers in my Suphuric acid bath pretty much everything I put in there comes out with a liberal coating of copper without any additional charge being added. It can make an old manky boiler look like an absolutely new one after a couple of days! I have a plating bath and over the years have plated lots of things. A mistake many people make is too many volts and amps. Low volts, low amps and plenty of time works for me. I used to use an aquatium water heater to help things along but turns out thet arent acid proof for long.

I have several different benders but the Dubro is by far the best for small sharp bends.

Thread: Purchasing an unknown build
19/02/2020 10:27:49

Chap brought me a boiler for a 3.5 gauge which he said had a small leak and could I fix it...and if I couldnt he was going to put a car radiator sealant in it to get it through test. The boiler looked very nice, new and well made. On test it leaked from everywhere. I dont know what had happened during soldering or what it had been soldered with but I couldnt make one do that if I tried. Needless to say it didnt get fixed, it got cut up. Ive still got the bits in case the customer wanted them back. On cutting it apart to see what had gone wrong it was noted that there was almost no penetration on any joint. Looks can be deceiving!

Thread: Locked out of computer
15/02/2020 08:59:47

If it wont even start to boot its not good. Probably the power supply failed but could be any number of things.

Take it to repair shop but if its more than 12 months old it will probably be cheaper to buy a new one. Good news is that your existing hard drive should be ok with a new machine, again depending on how old it is.

Thread: Anyone in NW UK able to offer simple Fusion 360 help?
14/02/2020 16:00:56

Thanks all again. This forum has is so good for help.

14/02/2020 09:08:19

Thanks all. Bob, this is my exact remit. I only want to get gcode to run in mach3 for my mill, and then only basic shapes. I have produced gcode using other software but you need three different programs to get to the end point whereas f360 should do it all...any help most welcome.

13/02/2020 21:31:02

Hi. Im trying to get into fusion 360 but there are so many youtube tutorials that I dont know where to start. So far all seem to assume that we already know the basics of F360, which means I am falling at the first hurdle. Can anyone advise of a simple guide or better still offer some one to one help. This is for hobby use, not work related. Thanks.
