Google audrino stepper sheilds...simplw drivers expecting ttl pulse train for step and direction. ..as have been said...cheaper than the chips in one offs

Ok now I too don't get the radius issue..if you are using a scriber with dead flat bottom and all bevel on top then no radius to be allowed for...confused now

Jerry...try the techniques used in thermal deburring......atmosphere of O2 at 300 bar...apply ignition. ...

If the bit of you scriber. That you touch off the slip is say 3.000 mm then you will be able to set the center of it to your notional 1.0000"...but as you asked how do you grind your point central. ..

Will I would use a diamond wheel in grinding head ( grinder).
Say like a tool grinder..and holding the tip in a suitable collet chuck..rotate point while apply to grinding wheel.( ar its crudest cordless drill against bench grinder)..I would use 10 -100 to one ratio...with point being the slower
.....you then can verify central ness...from scribing two lines rotating point 180 degrees. .one line. .= good..two lines = retry
But the blade type described above gets round all uncertainty ( well most)..

20150108_132952.jpgThis argument. Re oil film on slips seems at least 90 years old.

Npl tests in 1924 explored the effect of different oils of minimum thicknes
And looking at the difference in height of a given pair of blocks....
See attached

It seems the oilfilm may reach zero thickness on the high spots of the finish and more in the valleys. .how the high spots of one slip interact with the lows of another slip might also add to the "grip"..
The effect of air pressure on wringing was also explored...
And at 0.5 psi the force to pull apart tge slips exceeded 30 times that from the air pressure.
..will attemp to post extract

I am with ady1 on this...
Too many h and s "inspectors" are two week course veterans.
( and risk assessment is often done by non specialists...with a consequence of "any "risk being too much)..unfortunately the result is often staggeringly over the top.
The result?... well we all have a laugh at these "jobsworths" and the very real contribution of the hse is undermined and ridiculed.

Re lunar soc.

Well there you go.

Btw I have measured ( only in the lab)..deflection caused by the gravitational attraction between a few tens of kilos of mass.. anyone care to explain if the levels should be observed locally or from a remote?

Model engineer..some time ago published a precision level build.

The tube ( bubble) was made from parallel glasse tube ( drawn)
And a nominally straight tube was warped ( screw pressing between two supports) to achive the desired curve.
As to lathe leveling...this debate is old and pointless.
Those who believe will never convince the non believers and vice versa..

Delrin washer.
Ptfe also works but care since it flows under pressure...
Basically large diameter friction component..reduces pressure and flow.

On a twenty footer I used 30 mm od and ten mm shaft..
Think large headed pin ..washer... cage..
Less than perfect but smaller than original drum and has lasted three seasons...
At halyard end don't over do it because of bulk at mast head but same form of swivel

Engineering (design)
Woukd be well loved if the function and "innards" of the latest 'phone were as valued as the colour.

Some years ago.
The manager of the firm ( sub branch) I worked at tried to get an elavated salary for the engineering staff.
A local weighting in effect...
He was told no way...do you have any trouble recruiting? ...well no we don't but that's because we are recruiting new graduates at higher salaries than our five year graduates. ..
So?.

Looks like little has changed.
Thread: Precision Pipe Bending

Pardon me for stating the obvious.

Unless the stock is expensive...

Since the part between the bends is the critical length..
With bender bolted down to act on say horizontal plan .add board to behind and near said plane...add such blocks as to provide stops...for length and angle

Do first bend...to required parts..plus a few...

Add/ remove stops for next bend.....
Do second bend...

Trim in and out lengths as required....

The latter allows extra length for ease of stops etc. .make from over long if needed to get stop out of swing area...
Bend one end

JasonB....sorry but I agree with you.
.
When I read the op question..I thought..if I had only one chuck which would I want.
....4 jaw indi...but futher thought was...Frankly a three jaw self center will fit most work and job could be done before the well known flexibility and added finesse of the 4 jaw could have even chucked the part up.
