My suggestion would be a damping function.

By shorting a small DC permanent magnet motor

The tendency to self limit the movement speed.

Basically using "back emf breaking"

Unless as suggested the single wire has two conductors then no current could flow to power the motor.

I would add.

Drill chuck run out and straitness

Though 2 .5 is not silly small(try 0.3 mm) the tool holding is critical. 0.1 run out on a 10 mm drill is sort of acceptable it's far too big on a 2.5 mm drill

And typical drill press chucks aren't made to hold small drills well. Plus what rpm. I doubt you are spinning the drill any thing like the 10's of thousands of rpm "ideal".

And if you haven't already take a look at is indicator build

Printers print in *all* directions...so a circle cross section will present a constant profile at all directions in the day plane.

Any other profile would give no advantage in an arbitrary angle even if a slight advantage in X or y only feed

The theoretical 0.4 mm dia nozzle would give corners of 0.2 rad. In practice the smoosh of the plastic gives a shape that is at this scale more to do with fluid dynamics than nozzle geometry.

Thus for no gain we change from simple drill/team to broach...more complex for no gain

I have some tee nuts...long version longer to spread load..

If you made long nuts tapped say 10 in the middle and say 6 mm and 8 mm either side..thus , as has been said you have the flexibility to use the thinner studs...

So the base accuracy of dividing head is matching of worm and wheel...

This first needs two threaded parts. .of the same pitch and diameter.

One is made into a tap...

The other becomes your worm.

The tap is used to cut the worm... choosing the pitch/circumference ratio desired...which regardless of the pitch will be known...we now have accurate reduction drive.

Now let's think about how you without a screw cutting lathe could generate a screw thread if CONSISTANT pitch?...

Chase a long screw thread...as fine as you can file the chaser

Now arrange to hold many pitches of this thread ( two flat plates) ..you now have a CONSISTANT but weak thread...use this to drive screw cutting for stronger thread also accurate....now make the screw thread required above....

I too was surprised .

He works in gold and platinum but seems to show none of the "hygiene" over swarf seen in the gold trade.

Just watch his investment casting station.. foundry is too small a word.
