Thread: Arduino, Genuino ... or what Clone ?
08/08/2015 11:07:47
My experience is of nano's mostly...
These cloned variants differ only in the usb/serial chip and consequentially required driver ( doesn't seem to be issue under windows but not native under android)
If you can get your mega as genuine and cost is not an issue do that.
( I think cost is about the same on the megas..it gets a bit different on nano-s..3quid for clone and 30 for "genuine")

In any case since the design is "open"..what is genuine anyway...
I take the hump paying a premium for what turns out to be generic.

The rs route is low fuss low risk.

Michael...Great minds think alike..and fools seldom differ

Before we get too brutal.

Is there a pin riding in a keyway( to resist rotation )..inserted.from maybe under paint..
..I have seen such that prevents sliding out of lower half...
..
That said might just be crud gluing it in.

Vic.if you mean on the A35 near crown roundabout. ..sort of..but every accident on the A35 blocks it axminster to dorchester. .
Thread: Five Phase Stepper Motor -- I need to find a Driver
02/08/2015 20:03:45
One caution. .the home made sequencer solution does nothing to control the current through the motor.

Typicaly 0.5 ohm coils driven ( in the case of one motor/drive from 48V..).
This high voltage and sometimes pulse shaped current limit isto over come the inductance of the motor coil.. its easier to hit 2A in a milli second id you aim for 6 A in 5-10 ms...
Any way note some current limit will be needed

Any where near DT6?
Thread: Five Phase Stepper Motor -- I need to find a Driver

Just to add.. the + - and off drive for each coil is achived by either star or "penta" wiring..adjacent phases are joined in the penta ( delta) mode thus driving both ends of a coil +( or -).yields the no drive condition for tgat phase..

Gentlemen.
I restarted this because I had just discovered the UPDATED stepper library for audrino... Now includes a five phase support.
.

Apart from current control . All you need is five 1/2 h bridge drivers. ..

Neil..you might find that thouse a4988 polou boards are two phase bipolar. . But yes great value and simple to integrate. .

Great when it works..
31/07/2015 22:30:02
Forgive the necropost

I have discovered the canonical stepper.cpp and .h library now included 5 phase drive.

Also for 3 phase steppers there exists a single chip solution..stk673-010..

Micheal G..indeed thanks for the "correction".
Shame it can't be corrected inplace..

Partly to bump your post.

Shims...how about drinks can metal.
Shim is nothing special. .
Aparr from convenience of known thickness..
The "levelling" word will attract a to and fro about necessity of leveling the bed. I will leave that to others.
.
Me?..
Its on a stand...cut some metal..does it turn parallel. .if so. Worry not.

..Berners Lee ( WWW)
..Hovercraft.
Stored programme computers
High pressure steam engins

Mass produced iron and steel

Trip hammers

Chronometer (latitude)..

And many more

With all this innovation. .why are we where we are today?.

Politics mostly.
Some bright spark decided we needed to move from a manufacturing economy to a service economy ( banking?)
Well that worked out so well.
Thread: Order of work for small item?

Ok. How would I do it?

On my home gear. .
Well for two to ten.

File flats. .filing rest lathe/indexer
Turn taper towards head stock. .forward knife tool.parting off in process.
Repeat for all parts.

Take ( even bar end if ness) stock.mark jaw and stock
Drill hole in stock to match a/c of flats.
Slit improvised collet..
Return to marked position.
Use this fixture to chuck parts and finish cone as required ( do you really mean cone to ZERO radius? ).
..
For hundreds?
Well pretty much the same..but I would rig live tooling on cross slide and turn with point to tailstock and part off finished
Thread: Speed Controller - error in Circuit
20/07/2015 18:22:11
Like others.
Well done in that tracing.

What you have there is stage one..trace what seems to be going on.

Stage 2. Compare tracing against " textbook" ( or other reference..)circuits and double check circuit board against tracing where difference occur.
In particular ..even if "wrong" record what the board is doing. It might have been "wrong" from day one.

This leads to stage 3..can it be fixed/improved.

Again well done for a beginner. .we have all been there. Btw can you see the family resemblance to the speed control circuit in the mag?..

Jason,

It`s not a satisfactory post to quote the opinions of dead people, what is your opinion!

Alan

.....

Mmm

1 ..Sorry I didn't know you were the arbiter of "satisfactory" or otherwise on posts.

2. Quoting dead people is widely accepted.

3. It is generally accepted that quoting someone living or dead is a way of ( hopefully) articulating a point better than one might in ones own words.
