Thread: GWR 14XX
19/03/2022 22:34:35

Hi Stephen,

I appreciate this is a very old post but I am about to embark on the same loco and wonder if you found this article and how you got on with yours?

Kind regards,

Geoff

Thread: F360 CAD/CAM for CNC - Fixture modeling
09/12/2021 18:47:01

I am strictly an F360 amateur but have played with adding fixtures and also tabs and follow along with Lars Christenson on YouTube as I find his instruction very useful. Bear in mind that you can select sections of your parts' profiles for milling etc so that you avoid some areas, these could be where you have your clamps etc located. Adding fixtures is useful in the simulate function as then you can see when any collisions might occur.

I looked at paying for Fusion but decided against for some of the same reasons as JasonB, I edit the G code by hand looking for obvious places where the rapids can go and replacing with faster feeds there. As an aside I've just started looking at G wizard free trial and it has made lots of sense for me with my very small and quite flexible Boxzy 3d router - well worth a look if you have a few spare hours.

No connection with any of the companies etc.

Good luck,

Geoff

Thread: Barrier Creams
27/03/2021 17:18:59

I was told early on in working life that the best barrier cream was a pair of gloves and have lived by this ever since. Most especially when working on Class 158 trains for Arriva Trains Wales in the days of dropping the sewage on the track and hence all over the underneath of the train. Yuck.

Thread: Flash player
01/11/2020 13:13:42

Just to add another spoon to the pot... Flash will in all likelihood self destruct at the end of the year. link: So how are ME/MEW going to justify charging people with new digital subscriptions and no flash player available for older issues in the vaults? I speak as a person for whom then digital part of the subscription is the main draw. And frankly, saying maintain a legacy player doesn't wash for me as the fact is that Flash is very vulnerable to software exploits/malware etc. Looks like ME/MEW's hand will be forced in the not too distant future. I will be happy to be corrected, but as a Linux, MAC and Windoze (when forced to) user I think things are diverse enough in the software department. Any suggestions for compliance gladly received.

Thread: Naerok manual

Thanks very much Trevor - I might go the VFD route myself as I've just done it to my X3 mill. Thanks for the offer of the motor though. Geoff

Hi, I have bought and about to move a SSB 7MK and wonder if the manual mentions how much it weighs?

many thanks, Geoff

Thread: Myford service
21/11/2014 13:39:32

Hello Brian,

I just sent off my ML7R headstock and spindle to Darren Boden and had it back in 3 days with new angular contact bearings and a scraped in cone bearing - top class service. I went for posting the headstock as I'm over 3 hours away from Darren who's based in Nottingham. Everything you read about him is top class and my experience is likewise.

All the best,

Geoff

Thread: Mystery Heat Exchanger
20/12/2013 12:11:55

I work on the Class 158 for Arriiva Trains Wales, it looks very similar in design to the heat exchanger used for cooling the hydraulic fluid used by the transmission on our units although it is considerably smaller (and much much lighter, oh what a heavy thing to change!).

Thread: Myford Lathe service
15/12/2013 16:49:07

I'm going to get my ML7R serviced early in the New Year as soon as it has made its way to the new shed. I'm on the coast of Mid Wales if anyone nearby wants to get the same done and see if we can share the travel costs please get in touch via this forum.
