I'm slightly amused by this Smiths discussion sitting in NZ reading my copy arrived here 5 days after it was released. I had ordered it on the same day. If Smiths can't come up with the goods then why not vote with your feet and order it online from MHS? The online ordering page is only clicks away from where this dicussion is ocuring. You don't know what you are missing......... Pete
I think is a case of not wanting to pay the £1.98 postage charge if you order on-line.

Thread: Looking for a small milling machine - Sieg Super X1L Good choice ? |
21/03/2012 22:38:39 |
I also have the Arc X1L and never had a problem with tramming ... I don't use the tilt so it is locked tight like Michael's. (I did buy a spare get of gears, but they are still in the box unused ... I do only take small cuts) I also got Arc to prepare it for me, it worked straight out of the box and was correctly set up. Super little machine and mine is not too noisy.

Why not buy a plastic washing-up bowl (or a bucket), place this in your sink and wash your hands in that. When you have finished, carry the bowl/bucket full of dirty water outside and tip it down the drain.

Thread: Material Supplier |
07/03/2012 14:36:32 |
Mike, Maidstone Engineering, Macc Model Engineers, Blackgates, M-Machine will all ship whatever quantity you need. (The first 2 might be a bit cheaper on postage though and they also sell via Ebay) I have no connection with any of the companies above, except to say that I have had good service from all of them.

Companies like Blackgates or M-Machines will sell you whatever size you want. I also agree with Jason's comments.

Thread: Small cast iron bar supplier? |
05/03/2012 10:51:17 |
Ivy, Have you phoned/emailed M-Machines? They sell Cast Iron and say that <quote> "We can cut square and rectangles to your requirements, a small cutting charge will apply. Please enquire" <endquote> They can sometimes supply material that is not listed in their catalogue. They have cut custom sizes of Steel and Brass for me in the past ... and the cutting charge ammounted to pence rather than pounds. No connection with them, just a very happy customer.

Thread: ME 4422 - Darjeeling Drawing Error (Running Board Brackets) |
25/01/2012 12:31:03 |
Thanks Donald (and Raymond) |
25/01/2012 09:57:18 |
Hi,
I think I have spotted a drawing error in ME 4422 on page 152.
Looking at the "Running Board Bracket Number 3"
I think that the 2 1/8 and 1 3/8 dimensions on the plan view are incorrect. (I don't think the angle thickness is 3/4")
I think the printed 2 1/8 dimension should be 1 3/8 and that the printed 1 3/8 dimension should be 1 1/4. (I measured these on Ray's drawings)
The dimensons also appear to be wrong/mis-leading on Ray's drawings (From Blackgates) as well.
Can Ray or someone please confirm this?

Thread: How do I access my Digital MEW subscription? |
19/01/2012 08:52:17 |
Have you sent a email to David Clark (Editor and Moderator)? Although it may not be his job, he will sort it out for you.
And he does answer his emails.

P.S Look at the contents page (Accessable from the home page) for his email address. Edited By Steambuff on 19/01/2012 08:52:44 |

Thread: Darjeeling Articles ??? |
13/01/2012 22:55:05 |
4421 should have been uploaded on Wednesday but still ain't there .... typical service, they just don't care about the digital subscribers .... taken our money so they are happy.
(I expect we will get the next excuse in the list)
I can see the cover of 4421 on the homepage (Hit refresh)
There should have been a Darjeeling article in 4417 but there wasn't ... there should have been one in 4421 but there isn't .... next excuse in the list please
