Mystery solved, I think. Looking at the change wheels Tony sells on lathes.co.uk, they are Boxford. |

A friend has asked if I can identify these gears for him. There came with his ML7 but are obviously not for that lathe. He wants to try to sell them, so any help identifying them would be appreciated. Hopefully I am attaching a photo, but the gears are as follows: 100/127 compound with 5/8" bore 54/18 compound with 5/8" bore 80 with boss and 5/8" bore. The rest are all 9/16" bore with 1/8" keyway - 32 (2 gears), 36, 40, 46, 48, 52, 54, 56, 60 (4 gears) |

I got the awful Pocketmags working, but can't view the magazines from this site, so I can't view the archive. |

Thanks, Jason. Martin. |

Just tried to look at the digital mags, first time for a couple of months, and told my subscription ended in August but I renewed my subscription in July. I just checked the credit card statement and £37.99 was taken by MyTimeMedia on the 17th July. Who do I contact to get this put right? Martin. |
Thread: St Albans MES Exhibition 2013 |
28/09/2013 21:30:50 |
Back home in Yorkshire now, and tired! The show was bigger and better than I was expecting. I was particularly impressed by some of the Meccano stuff, especially the Stevenson's Rocket and stationary engines by Colin Davies, but as I took up scroll sawing earleir this year, I was rather taken by the Meccano scroll saw. I also noticed a well travelled Meccano exhibitor from Pickering who I have seen at the Harrogate ME exhibition a couple of times, and the steam rally in his home town. We'd gone to St Albans for the wife to see her new great-niece, so the show was a great break for me. Another visit next year is always a possibility. Martin. |

Just had a couple of enjoyable hours there, and the b****y great lump of spring steel is still in the back of the car. I forgot all about it while we were there. Martin. |
Thread: Any uses for a big chunk of spring steel? |
26/09/2013 09:59:02 |
Colin, I wouldn't know what to do with it without a forge, and I don't have room for one. I worked with the blacksmiths for a number of years when I worked as a welder at t'pit and used to love using the steam hammer. Bazyle, I am in Yorkshire, but by coincidence I will be in St Albans Friday/Saturday, so I will pay a visit to the show and bring it with me. Look for a little bald chap with a grey beard, specs, and black denim Wrangler jacket and jeans, and ask the correct question, ('eyup, is thy from Yorkshire?) then you can claim your prize. (I thought I better add the bit about the black Wranglers as model engineer shows usually have plenty of little bald men with grey beards and specs.) Seriously, if you want the piece of spring, and we do make it down there, you are welcome to it. Martin.

I don't see it being any good to me, so if anyone is passing M62 J31 sometime, you're welcome to it. Martin. |

So, chuck it in the scrap bin then? Or in my case, put it back out in the street and the gentlemen with the old Transit pickup will take it in the morning, no questions asked. Martin. |

A piece of spring steel literally fell off the back of a lorry outside my house. Part of the leaf spring suspension broke as he went over the hump in the road and it slid along the road as the lorry disappeared into the distance. It's a good job it wasn't school time, as the 'sleeping policeman' is on the school crossing. Is this sort of steel any use? It's about 3" wide by 5/8" thick and a couple of feet in length. Can't think of anything I would want to use it for, and no way for me to machine it, other than with a handheld grinder. Martin. |
Thread: Where do I renew my subscription? |

Thanks, Dave. I just checked my old issues and 195 is the Autumn issue. Just goes to show how observant I aren't. MK |

I got a confirmation email to say my subscription has been renewed and will expire with the August issue 2014. The subscription says I get 13 issues, but September to August is only 12 issues, so is there an extra one along the way that I have forgotten about? MK |

I found where to renew my subscription but there's nothing to say which issue it will start with. Looks like I am going to get another Wixey gauge too. I already have one from last year. Not that I am complaining, you understand. MK |

I had an email last week telling me my MEW subscription had expired, but in my account details it says it expires on 31/08/2013 Unfortunately the email got deleted, so I don't know which is correct, and I also can't figure out where to renew. MK |

Interesting idea, but I don't think I have need of 3 surface plates. |
