Thread: SS BA screws

I have found several companies who do SS BA screws but none of them do a complete range. Try CCS Fasteners, Surplus Supplies and EKP

Richard,

Just get a length of threaded rod long enough to go through the S7 spindle that is suitable for the thread in your chuck and then use this with a nut and a large washer that fits over the end of the spindle. You do not have to tighten the draw bar very tight, it is only to stop the milling chuck coming loose.

Thread: Bassett Lowke 1.5" Burrell Plans Required

Hi Derek,

I have scanned in my copies of the 1 1/2" Bassett Lowke TE drawings and can send a copy of them to you at no cost. If you send a Private Message to me with your email address I will contact you to discuss what format you want them in.

I use Genie Backup Manager to backup to an external disk and it works well for me. The latest basic version called Timeline Home seems simple to use and is £30. link

Thread: Bassett Lowke 1.5" Burrell Plans Required
03/07/2014 14:01:40

Hi John,

I am currently building a Bassett Lowke 1.5" traction engine that was started by my father about 40 years ago.
I have all 5 drawings but they are rather fragile and not verry good quality so I have scanned them in as a series of A4 scans and stitched them back together using Photoshop. I can email a copy to you if you want but the drawings are not totally accurate and don't give much detail for some parts.

Sheet 1 is the general arrangement and doesn't appear to have been revised compared to the others because it shows a different firehole door to the detail on anotheer sheet.

There was no construction booklet original produced, unlike the 3/4" scale Bassett Lowke TE so you need to have some knowledge of model TE construction. I have an old set of the Plastow 3" Burrell drawings which I use for additional information as it appears to be very similar to the Bassett Lowke Burrell.

The other thing you need to consider is that the original boiler drawing shows an all copper rivetted and soft solder construction with integral hornplates which isn't really acceptable now. I redrew the boiler to be silver soldered construction with separate steel hornplates and had it made commercially.

If you want any more information please let me know.

Thread: 3" Burrell build
18/01/2014 18:26:10

Deric,

I have a copy of the Plastow book "The Burrell Builder Book Of Pictures" and I have scanned a photo showing the water pump position and put in an album. There is a note attached to it saying that the lower lug rests directly against the upper bearing tube.

In Formula 1 they use this to protect the carbon fibre but it may be OTT for you!

Thread: Updating a PC and software to Windows 8
22/01/2013 12:57:39

David,

According to the Microsoft Windows 8 compatibility website Eudora v 7.1 is compatible but there are no user comments to confirm this. Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.1 included support for 64 bit OS such as Vista and it may be worth trying this although the Microsoft site says v11.0 is required and the Nuance site v12.

The link to v10.1 is **LINK**

Thread: Cutting spring wire

I have had to do this a couple of times and have used the side cutters on a pair of pliers without any problems although it is advisable to wear gloves because of the sharp cut ends!

Thread: Digital Issues

John,

I don't think you would be happy with the PDF file that is ent to the
printers as it will be a large file that contains hi-res images and you also
have to consider image type (CMYK v RGB) transparency, colour matching and font
information.

However I also subscribe to Autosport magazine which gives two options for
digital editions, either a Flash-based viewer (better than the MEW one) and a
down-loadable PDF file.

The PDF is about 70MB for 100 pages.

Autosport is a weekly magazine with a much larger circulation than ME and
MEW and I'm sure thay can afford to spend a lot more on their digital issues.

Richard

Better still to save all the hassle time and expense of these reader programs why not just upload the PDF, which exists

Thread: Reply to Post Disappears

I have tried 3 times to reply to the post about not being able to view the Digital Editions using 64bit IE9 and each time the reply just disappears after I hit the "Add Posting" button.

Any suggestions?

the reply I was trying to post was

"I use Windows 7 and IE9 - both 64bit and have no problems viewing the digital issues.

The latest version of Adobe Flash does support 64 bit systems so check you are using the latest version; mine is 10.3.181.14"
