Its not the package but the support youneed. Its easy when you know how But getting there is the hard bit .Without support its way to steep . |

Thread: What lathe to get? |
13/04/2012 14:50:13 |
hi well in my workshop have the following lathes DSG 13x42 , Leinen Approx 9x18 , and a hercus southbend boxford type . a nice lot of lathes and the lathe I like using the most for small jobs is the Hercus ( quick change box ) all the bells etc VFD .The hercus does the most .easy to use . the only lathe I have sold was a Myford baught brand new saved for when I was at school . would not give a flat bead lathe shed space ( I learned a lot on this lathe .book in one hand machine in other ) I find a v bed lathe strets ahead of a myford .I red all the books as a young fellow and Myford was it . so that is what I bought. . wish it had been a Hercus . buy the bigest lathe you can afford . |

the radial holes just have screws in them to locate the bearing .(from memory ) think it would be better to have a steped bore |
16/03/2012 13:30:17 |
I have built one I think ! the bearing is just pinched in the Al bit .you have to wash out the bearing no oil . Mine has been heated with a Metho burner . runs for hours on a small amount . a nice running engine . How about a picture . I will take one of the bit .If its the same engine |

why no try a boxford, southbend ,Hercus . I find a myford just hard work. After a v bed lathe . Flat bed lathes tend to shy away from work .
