Okay. Which year was the second IMLEC? If 1969 was the first, then 2019 is arguably the fiftieth anniversary inasmuch as 1970 was the first anniversary. Or is it me ...? |

Hi Paul Unlike Birthdays, we do count the frst one as number one, therefore the fiftieth will be 2018. 2019 would be the 51st. 2019 would be the fiftieth 'anniversary' perhaps. I had the same dilema at first but then thought about it... Diane ps - we haven't taken the missing one into account. |
Thread: Model Engineer Issue 4542 (2 Sept) |
18/10/2016 15:13:42 |
Would any reader/ susbscriber who normally disposes of their copy of Model Engineer once it has been read, kindly hold on to Issue No. 4542 (2nd September) if possible. A large geographical area covering Hampshire and parts of Dorset (and possibly beyond) was affected by the Royal Mail apparently losing mail bags, resulting in all subscribers in that area missing their copy of this issue. All warehouse stock has now been exhausted. To some, this leaves a gap in an otherwise unbroken collection. I would like to be able to coordinate passing on a second hand copy to those people if at all possible. Please email me (see 'Contact us' below) if you are able to help or if you are one of those in the South who has been affected. Thank you This notice is completely separate from any issues subscribers may wish to raise with the supplier regarding compensation. Please direct those enquiries to the normal point of contact.

Colin has been found. Thanks |

I have been approached by someone who is trying to trace Colin Sears. He was formerly of the St. Albans MES but latterly in Scotland. If you know of Colin would you please send me a PM or telephone me (number in the inside front cover of the Mdel Engineer). Thank you |

Thread: Brooklands by Public Transport |

Thanks Jason. You beat me to it! |

I have posted this elsewhere but thought it might be helpful to start a new thread with a clear title. Accessing Brooklands by Public Transport. On Friday and Saturday there is a frequent bus service - Route No. 436 - from Weybridge Station to Mercedes Benz World which is adjacent and leaves just a short walk to the Museum entrance. Unfortunately there is no bus service on a Sunday. If taking a taxi from the Station ask the driver to take you to Campbell Gate (Members' Hill); this is a much shorter journey than to the usual public entrance (i.e. the car park) and about half the price! (Roughly £6 to £8 to Campbell Gate) If walking you would also arrive at Campbell Gate. From the station, walk south along Brooklands Road (B374) and look for a right turn to JTI (UK). Take that turning (it's a paved road) and carry on down the Members Hill. There is a sign indicating Brooklands Museum straight on down the hill (don't take JTI to the right). The walk from the station to the Museum is about 20 - 30 minutes. |

The formula used for IMLEC is not exactly fool proof ... there are certain problems in the formula. This has (to the best of my knowledge) been acknowledged for many years. The canny drivers take advantage of this...
And therein lies the answer. In my view, if you really want to test locomotive efficiency, construct a test bed. If you want to demonstrate how to drive efficiently enter IMLEC (or IMLDEC?) and have a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. I answer to Neil - yes there were errors in the table as published. Issue 4545 may include an amended table. Diane |

I see MEX have now got the list up It has been 'up' for quite a while actually but, as Jason says, it isn't too obvious although the top tab does say 'Clubs and Trade'. I can only apologise for the MEX website. We do what we can ... Unfortuntely no RDG this time. I think the change of date has been (as was expected) a double-edged sword so to speak. Many traders who do something almost every weekend were unable to attend this year. Let's prove that MEX would have been their best bet Diane |

Regarding missing copies of ME4542: I can report that there seems to have been a problem with delivery rather than supply. This may have affected one geographical area, the size of which is currently unknown but it is presently under investigation. Please bear with us - we are doing all we can to solve the problem. Until we aremade aware of such problems we cannot take action to remedy them so we are grateful to all who have reported missing issues. Please be assured people are 'on the case'. We hope to have more news on Monday. Thank you for your patience ... Diane |

There was a delay with ME4542's digital uplaod but I am assured it is now resolved. The Metro Tank plans, sheets 3 and 4 are in issue 4544. They skipped 4542 because of the Mini Exhibition Guide with the lecture programme etc. I can't help with the print subscription enquiries until tomorrow but will try to find out why you are getting such messages.

This link will take you to the CURRENT bus timetable. Bus No. 436: Weybridge to Woking via Weybridge Railway Station and Mercedes World (closest stop to Brooklands Museum and about 5 minutes' walk from the entrance). Please note: Some Surrey bus services are subject to change on 3/4 September so please check before travelling.
