Thread: High temperature plastics |

Polycarbonate seems not to have been mentioned, but would be economically and within the temperature zone. Else use a thermoset rather than a thermoplastic. Most pan lids etc with handle use these materials,e.g. bakerlite and melamine type materials or mould/ machine a piece from “plastic Steel” an epoxy resin, even Araldite? Peter |
Thread: Inverter interference |

Howard, 13A suppressed sockets are designed to suppress incoming spikes to IT equipment, not to reduce outgoing noise. They are typically based around a device that shorts to ground if a high voltage spike is seen. Even if they were, at the socket is not the ideal location since the cable from socket to VFD would still radiate any conducted from the VFD. If you need any additional filtering it needs to be as close to the source as possible, entry to the enclosure and chosen so that it attenuated the noise and not as a resonant with any existing front end filters in the VFD. Peter |
22/02/2022 09:31:59 |
Simple solution is turn the inverter off. Engineered solution is to put inverter in a grounded box with correct front end filter for it. Incorrect filter could further tune noise, rather than attenuate. Mount as close to motor as possible and screen cables, grounding at one end only so as not to create loops, back to initial star ground point. If you have a pendant, screen the wire to than also. Check any LED lights for emissions also with a radio. |

Hopper, One turn of the jacking screw. Is slid on to the bull wheel and enables the bull wheel to be rotated by amounts less the the tooth to tooth angle. Works using the principle of a sine bar and using the maths of small angle approximation. So that the need to use a calculator or trig tables is not required. A have sold a few, versions for ML7 and S7. |

Thread: Indexers for S7 and ML7 |

Based on the chuck removal lock primarily for the ML7 Addison Gray and myself have developed a simple indexing devices for the ML7 and S7. These use the principle of a sine bar and maths small angle approximation to make it easy to rotate and set the spindle to any angle. Intended as a marking out and drilling aid, not for milling, requires no drilling or holes to affix and no calculations, since one turn = one degree. Peter

Thread: ML7 Bull Wheel Dimensions? |

Addison Gray posted the original files for the ML7 version to thingiverse. 20Dp 20 pa gear on ML7. PLA 5-6 layers of perimeter, top/ bottom and 20% infill using a 0.2 or larger Layer height will perform. ( PLA stronger than PETG/ABS when printer, thicker layers stronger than thin, just like an I beam the perimeter does the work, so no point high infill.) He and I gone on to develop indexing versions of these for both ML7 and S7, picture in album. |
Thread: ML7 Spindle Lock |
20/02/2022 15:24:30 |
I have been collaborating with Addison. We offered the locks in exchange for a charity donation made directly by the recipient , in January, to those without 3D printers. We continue to supply these giving a percentage to charity. We have gone on the develop a version for the S7 which acts as an indexing device. We have also developed these into sub tooth level indexing so that the issues with the ML7 65tooth are not an issue. Happy to share details. if you print you own 4-5 perimeters is sufficient with similar top / bottom and 20% infill at 0.2 layer height, ( thicker layer are stronger and it is the surface layers that take the load) print time around 2 hours. Robert, CISPR 11, which I assume this has been tested to ( not a motor so not CISPR14) gives two classes. Class A suitable for use in all establishments other than domestic building. The argument would be if a workshop is a domestic building. But typical a distance from a domestic dwelling or outdoors since a portable unit with in-built compressor, and so could be argued that unlike a microwave, in class B, that likely to be installed within the dwelling and there therefore class A. ( I don’t intend to use this in my living room.) the source of supply not necessarily relevant. Mixed sites, developments have a supply, no distinction as to mode of operation from that supply. So it maybe illegal to operate IN a domestic building, but not ON a “ domestic “ supply. The manufacturer is ask to document the class and implications, which they have “ but not in plain language “ You May have a more update copy of CISPR 11, am I missing some change? All change again on product safety when we get to the end of the and need UKCA? |
Thread: Converting .STL or .STP Files Back to a Drawing |

TurboCad will export and import STL or STP and a lot of other formats. However these specific formats are the solid model, no tolerance dimensions etc. But can obviously create “paper” views and print if that what you want. |

Picked one up first thing Thursday morning in Droitwich store, by 2 pm all gone. Yet to unpack and play. It is not illegal to sell for use industrial equipment or then to use on domestic, as such. A grey loop hole. Think of the number of people who do not add filters to retro installs of inverters, again specified to the upper emissions curves and non studio grade LED strip lights. Luckily most of the kit we use has high immunity covering up for our wide disregard for exact compliance. |

I have a older PNC2200, which I annually think about modernising. However there is no support past Xp and given the noise/dust, running it with it’s own older Xp computer not an issue. Newer W10 machines are without serial or parallel ports, which is another issue. There is a piece of software to translate DXF to the plotter format used by these machines, but the free version comes with water mark and the full version expensive for hobby use. Peter |

Probably not widely known, but split phase, cap run single phase motors can be run from VFDs. These motors are in effect a two phase motor and the generic AT2 VFDs are design to provide control for them.**LINK** |

Thread: Level of qualifications in the UK |
25/11/2020 21:27:15 |
Mario, With a level 6 qualification you would normally be looking at a professional/chartered engineers role or career path. With a level 3 or 4 it would be technician/trade type role. Obviously experience and specialist knowledge may effect the roles that are appropriate and blur the overlap. But if I was recruiting needing level 3 or 4 staff would need a fully explanation from someone with higher skill wanting the role. It will also depend on what size of organisation you apply to. |

Paul, Arceurotrade supply some bellows which may be suitable. However you may be able to salvage what you have. Don’t let it dry out any further, a bit like the Mary Rose. You need a good leather saddle soap or a leather sofa treatment and slowly feed it. Once it supple you can remove section that beyond hope, patch the holes and replace pieces. Either glue or stitch or staple. Even just a gorilla tape mend. Option B is to replace with rubber sheet skirts, but seems a shame to change them if you can restore. Someone with an small industrial sewing machine could be useful and a trawl around charity shops for old leather jackets. I been there done that, have a machine, just the task indoors on a winters night?
