Thread: Workshop Disposal |
14/08/2015 15:01:44 |
Thanks for this article on a most difficult topic. None of my immediate family share my interest in Model Engineering, thus my wife or the executor of my estate, would be tasked with disposing of my workshop. I, and I'm sure many other members would see the value in being able to print this article to be placed with a will and/or other instructions for their estate. Could you make this article available as a downloadable and printable document or .pdf? In my case, as I'm in the states, the references to firms and even this forum would need to be oriented to my location. Chuck |
Thread: Myford ML7 top slide dimensions |

Anyone have drawings or pictures of a Myford 7 or Super 7 topslide and nut disassembled?

osrix, I know this is an older post, but I have a buddy that wants to do the same to his 12" Atlas. He has added a T-Slot topslide from MLA in the US, but wants to get more travel out of it. He wants to build a Myford type nut and screw and adapt it to his Atlas. Have you made any progress in this project? The T-Slot cross slide he has is IIRC, 12", and is from **LINK** Chuck

Metalmuncher, Do you have any build threads or info on the stove fan? Chuck |
17/10/2014 16:04:26 |
For all the Stirling Engine experts here, I have the book, “Steam and Stirling Engines You Can Build” . In it, is the Moriya Stirling Fan, by Dr. Senft. The plans for this Stirling Engine are also available from a couple of American college websites. I would like to modify this design to run on the heat from a wood stove, instead of the alcohol lamp as shown in the plans. What would I need to do? Would it work if I just shortened the legs to allow the hot end rest on the stovetop? Or, maybe make an aluminum plate to set the hot end in, which would in turn rest on the stovetop? Can I post a picture of the Moriya from the book? Has anyone built this engine? Chuck |
Thread: 'Mark as read' option? |

Is there a way on this forum to mark threads as 'read' or filter the threads to not display all threads? Most of the forums I participate on have some type of feature for this. Chuck |
Thread: Using Harold Hall's Deluxe Grinding Table |
02/07/2014 16:05:16 |
With the help of my buddy Todd, I have completed Howard Hall’s Deluxe Grinding Table as described in his books. I have also completed the lathe tool jig and round tool jig and will make the drill jigs when I return from vacation. If you have built this table, I would like to see pictures/descriptions of your set ups and how you use your table. I have not completed my setup yet. I purchased a new bench grinder and replaced the standard grey wheels with a diamond cup for carbide and a white aluminum oxide straight cup for HSS. The guards over the standard wheels need to be modified to cover the new cups, and my table needs to be mounted, so I have not used the table or grinder yet. I am also interested in seeing any methods of mounting a diamond dressing tool on the table to dress the white wheel. Todd kindly gave me a diamond dresser that is mounted on a ½” dia. x 1 ½” shank and I need to design and build a jig for it. I am not the greatest machinist in the world, and I started this table early in my experience level, so the fit and finish isn’t pretty. When I visit Todd the next time, I hope to have him grind the parts of the table and my attempts at tool jigs, and when that’s done, I’ll post pictures. In the mean time, I hope to see lots of pictures and techniques posted here so myself and others can learn from them, so TIA! Little Machine Shop Has a calculator here that lets you select the imperial or metric lead screw, imperial or metric thread to cut, and also allows you to add any transposition gears you may have, and gives the change gear selection meeded to cut the desired thread.

I cant view. I see the message. chucketn's Library is Private Try again, I just found the setting to make it public. BTW, notice 3 types of ball ends on the handles. I've been working on this project for a couple of years. Ihe steel handle was made first, then I tore my ball cutter appart to improve it and it's still appart! The black plastic ball was from something my late Dad was working on. I used wooden balls for the last two, just to get it finished. I'll probably be making changes for the next couple of years until I like it! Still have the two drill sharpening jigs to make and a diamong dresser jig. As promised, pictures of my HH Deluxe Grinding Rest, the lathe tool jig, and round tool jig. Drill jigs, and diamond dressing tool jig have not been built yet. Herself and I leave on holiday Saturday morning, so not much more will get done for a couple of weeks. Pics here: **LINK**. I will have internet and e-mail while on holiday. Chuck

The "Deluxe" rest is covered in "Milling, A Complete Course", or the newer print version "Milling for the Home Machinist. Both are the same book, just different publishers. The rest and it's accessories were also serialized in MEW beginning in April 2003. The simple rest and drill sharpening jigs are in the book "Tool and Cutter Sharpening" which is # 38 of the Workshop Practice Series. Chuck |

Martin, The plans for the simple rest and deluxe rest are found in Harold Hall's books mentioned in the link Les posted. Chuck |

I'm still working on the finishing touches of the table (adjusting handles instead of temporary bolt and nuts) and making the accessories (drill jig). The humidity is uncomfortably high today. I'm going to set up a window type airconditioner to help that problem, and then I'll take some pictures. Chuck |

Thanks, Danny. Graham, I'm getting ready to go on holiday, but I will try to post pictures. If not before, then I promise when I return. Chuck |

I have built Harold Hall’s Deluxe Grinding Table, and am slowly setting up my grinding station. I am also working on the accessories for the table. I have built the lathe tool jig, and the round tool jig, and am working on the drill bit jig. I purchased a dedicated bench grinder for this setup. On it, I have mounted a diamond taper cup wheel (for carbide), and a aluminum oxide straight cup wheel (for HHS). One thing Mr. Hall did not include in his books (at least in those I have) is a jig to hold a single point diamond dressing tool, for Aluminum Oxide wheels, that will work with his Deluxe Grinding table. Has anyone here built this table? What custom jigs did you come up with? Do you have a jig for a single point diamond dresser that works with the table? I’ve seen dresser jigs advertised and written about on woodworking sites and some of them set the single point diamond pointing directly toward the center of the wheel, some point the diamond downward at 10 degrees to the center of the wheel. Which is best? I want to build a diamond dressing tool jig from CRS to work with Mr. Hall’s table. Any advice or pictures of your setups would be appreciated. Chuck |
