BUMP |
03/11/2018 15:31:43 |
My son and I went to a large bring and buy sale today ( Sat ) , amongst other things he bought a lathe built by Drummond brothers, As far as I can tell from Tony's website it's a B type lathe, Does anyone know where the serial number is ? It looks in good shape, and he plans to restore it to usable condition. Has anyone had experience of these lathes ? Any info would be gratefully received, Thanks, Richard.

For 2.5k I am wondering if I should be making them.
Mark, the boiler will be about £1500 probably plus VAT, wheel castings £250 ish etc etc, You can soon reach 2.5k , with cyl castings , axle boxes, boiler fittings etc.

I've been trying all week, about 10 times on the phone, but no human being on the phone, only a recorded lady saying I'll put you through , but nothing happens, If I phone after 4pm she says" we are closed ", I want to spend about 2.5k on 7 1/4" Bagnall boiler and castings etc, perhaps he dosen't need the money ? Does anyone else do the bagnall castings etc ? that is likely to answer the phone............................. |

After making some Dickson type tool holders for my Boxford ME10, I decided to make some for my Colchester Student 1800, I had 6 already , and decided to make another 5, Here are some pictures of the various operations, Instead of using a 90 degree horizontal milling cutter to do the "Vs", I decided to tilt the head of my Elliott U2 mill over to 45 degrees, ( see the picture ) ,

Here's the first real job I've done with the newly rebuilt 20" Edgwick shaper, Reducing some blocks of 2" square, to make some Dickson type tool holders for my Colchester Student 1800, The picture shows the shaper doing a 300 thou deep cut, with an 8 thou per stroke feed rate, 25 strokes a minute, going up to 60 strokes a minute on a 10 thou finishing cut. Stroke length 5 ".

Hello Bazyle, The castings are by EKP Supplies in Devon, as far as I know they are still available. Jason, Over the past 7 years I built up a collection of casting sets for other models, Stuart S50 Stuart compound marine engine Alyn Foundry Robinson gas engine Fairbanks gas engine Savage engine "Nicholas" Stuart No9 2 x Stuart steam hammers Stuart 6A compound marine engine So I've got plenty to go at, my only decision is , which to start first ! The Burrell is for sale, If it sells that's OK, if it dosen't I don't mind, though I would gain a lot of workshop space if it did sell........................ Richard. |
