Thread: capacitor size |
31/10/2016 18:34:47 |
hi all a couple of questions that hopefully somebody can help with. I have acquired a new to me compressor that needs new capacitors as the motor will not turn under load. question is- the motor is 240v,capacitors are both 40uF about the size of a red bull tin both are wired to the same terminals (2 wire) both rated at 440volts now my thinking is shouldn't one of them be rated at 230v as I'm assuming one should be a start and the other one a run and do they have to be that big, as the same size ones are about £20 each a pop I've seen some smaller ones on the bay for about £7 each . if any one could enlighten me that would be great. regards paul |

Andrew I have a sealy as well. You can adjust the wheels at the bottom of the arms by using an open ended spanner just above the wheels/bearings, they are on cams if you adjust them so the wheels are only just touching the blade then use a square up against the vice to adjust the lateral movement you should have no problem. (you may have to elongate the holes in the casting I had to do this on one of them) . Once I did this it was ok. regards paul |

Thread: Rotary table problem |
07/08/2016 14:09:03 |
Roger Thanks for that, It's one I picked up somewhere or other some time ago, like you do and never got round to using it. I had a quick look and the leaver spun round 360 deg so I nipped up the grub screw but it only moves very slightly 2 or 3 deg unlike the 20 deg marked on the dial. I think I will leave it till next weekend when I have more time and strip it down because I think something is not just quite right. Any further suggestions from the collective welcome in the meantime. Thankyou again Regards Paul |

Hello all I've used my rotary table for the first time today on my mill and I was quite alarmed how much the table juddered about. I ended up pushing down the clamps whilst rotating the table at the same time. surely this can't be normal? its a vertex table the x y & z were all locked down it was the rotary top that was jigging back and forth. any thoughts? regards paul |

thank you for all your replies, I will buy some more rocol and try my best not to knock it over. I've put a magnet in the bottom of my tub now! regards Paul |

Hello all I've spilt the the last of my tapping fluid (oops) . My question is can I use the cutting fluid for my lathe neat instead of buying 500ml of dedicated tapping fluid. Reason I ask is i've 2 gallons of the soluble type which will probably see me out. I don't see any reason why not, but somebody more informed than me may know better . Regards Paul |

OOp's surface mounted acc's should be metal clad for best protection regards Paul |
22/05/2015 22:58:47 |
Hi Thomas I'm part P If I was you I would put in a dedicated board for your workshop. Run a 10mm SWA from your existing board or 25mm from a henly block depending on the load. You don't need to pull up your chipboard floors. you can cut some holes in strategic places and pull the cable through with a cable quick or a fish. use surface mounted acc's with cables mounted in plastic round conduit easy to install and alter if need be in the future remember use an RCD or RCBO's regards Paul |

Thread: Granite surface table for £6.99 |
14/01/2015 18:52:59 |
Hi all anyone wanting something like this will be better off going to there local granite kitchen worktop manufacturer. there you will find a skip full of hob and sink cutouts. just ask them if you can have one. they will probably tell you to take whatever you want for free. its all just rubbish to them and everyone knows getting rid of rubbish for businesses is expensive these days happy hunting Paul |
Thread: Cherry's Model Engines |
05/10/2014 19:53:37 |
Hello Jason looks a very interesting book I does say in the description- "It looks at how Cherry developed as a model engineer from a young age, and how she goes about researching, designing, constructing and painting the models. However, there are no details of her machining techniques, which seem to be conventional, but done superbly well. " hope this helps regards paul |
