Use stainless steel round bar for the pins. I forgot to mention that in the above reply. Vince |

Hi Mark I am following your hacksaw build with interest. Before you open up your 10mm reamed holes, can I suggest using 10mm round bar for the pins instead of the dowel pins. Regards Vince |
Thread: Hello from Gozo - MALTA_2 |

Alan merhba min Marsascala. Some years ago there was a guy in Zebbug (Malta not Gozo) who dealt in big second hand machines. He was located next to the petrol station near the roundabout. I suspect he might not be in business anymore. You can check on MaltaPark. Who knows you might be lucky and find one that isn't scrap and not expensive. Good luck. Vince |

Thread: MEW renewal problem |
15/03/2016 10:16:31 |
If I go to http://me.secureorder.co.uk and login, I can see that my subscription has been renewed with a new expiration date. Phew. I can handle a 77 tonne vehicle at 170mph but nearly gave up on a simple renewal exercise. Vince |

I had nearly given up and thrown in the towel, but today I thought I would give it another try. This time I changed the destination from "Rest of the World" (which was the default setting) to "Europe". It seemed to have worked. The subscription expiration date in my settings is still showing 22/04/2016. How long does it take to get updated? Hope this helps someone else. OK Jason this time I went again to the link you gave and went to my account also as you said. I managed to find where to renew but I am now seeing 4 different one year renewal options with four different prices!!! It was so easy to renew in previous years. Vince |

Jason I have been using the subscriber number which starts with 4000 Vince |

Jason, I tried that link you gave me but it seems that it is to buy a new subscription. I can specify which issue with which to start the new subscription but do not know which one to choose. According to my account, the current subscription expires on the 22/4/2016. Vince |

I received an email to renew my print only subscription and also a letter through the post for the same reason. I tried to use the link in the email for renewal but did not work. I got the following message :"Sorry, we are currently unable to complete your order because either we don't ship to your country or you have products with mixed payment types in your basket. So next I tried the link given to me in the letter but got the same message. I have always renewed online but this is the first time I am having this problem. Help please. Vince

Thread: Southworth Corliss Engine. |
24/01/2016 09:32:11 |
Nick, As Jason said it is not a small model and it takes a fair bit of real estate. I guess it can be scaled down but the small parts of the Corliss valve linkages become even smaller and more fiddly to do. I guess, at the end of the day, it all depends how authentic you want the model and how much time you can invest in it. Vince

Hi
I am looking for 1/32" copper rivets. My usual UK supplier of model engineering goods has only brass rivets of that size.
Could somebody please direct me to a UK supplier (who deals with overseas orders).
Thanks in advance

Thread: Bending Mild Steel Flat bar |
08/03/2011 17:41:26 |
I spent all the morning experimenting with scrap mild steel of roughly the same dimension. Using an oxy-propane torch I could not get it hot enough in the vice as it was dissipating most of the heat. After I ran out of scrap steel I gave up and went home.
In the afternoon I had a nice 'siesta' and when I woke up I had an idea which I had to try.
Went back to the garage, Fixed a milling vice (with smooth jaws) to the milling table, clamped the metal I wanted to bend, inserted a 6 foot metal water pipe to use it as a lever and pushed the pipe. And 'viola' the steel rail bent nicely. It took me less than 10 minutes to do. Can't imagine why I did not think of this method before.
Thanks all for your input
