That spindle blank was originally designed for holding a chuck, with workpiece, in a bench vise for filing or whatever. It was so described in early Myford catalogs.

ArcEuroTrade calls them "Morse Taper Straight Sockets", but catalog them only in 1MT and 2MT. Still, that might broaden your search.

One of the Starretts, using the shallower movable jaw, makes a cracking good carriage stop for a Myford Series 7 lathe. Turn the clamp over, lay the inside bottom on the front way and tighten against the outside shear. Solid!

Another idea in that vein would entail using the longitudinal groove in the Myford Super 7 lead screw (for powering the cross feed) to drive the hand wheel, a la the old South Bends. A bronze miter gear would ride along the lead screw, with a key to be driven by the slot. This would mesh with another gear with axis parallel to the hand wheel axis. All else is imagination.

I discussed this idea with Ivan Law at a London show years ago and was not encouraged. His thought was that a Myford lead screw would wear so slowly as to make this adaptation unnecessary. Would surely be cool, though. In place of doing all the engineering involved, I just bought a new lead screw against the day.

At the USAF Machinist's Training Course, Chanute AFB, IL, in 1969, the school had a standard way of dealing with chuck keys left in place. There was a huge chuck key welded onto a heavy chain necklace. The offender got to wear the jewelry for the day. Not at the machines, of course.

I also have one of those Marlcos. The right wheels are Series AJ, 5/8" OD x 5/16" W x 7/32" Hole.

I've been using one of these attachments for a few years. Had planned to install some sort of DRO, as many of you have, but found that I could set the travel stop within half a hundredth (inch) using a steel rule. That means I can watch the drilling process, not the readout, and let the stop worry about the end of the process. What a pleasure!
