Another day another problem. I still can't get the rim to contact the spokes and I can't seem to upload a screen shot, so I've sent the screen shot to Neil to post. Started the base, first thing is I don't have a grid option in the ribbon and so can't turn off 'grid and snap' or check DOF color is on. I've generated the base but the rectangle by two corners won't generate a rectangle on the face of the base, also I don't appear to have a rectangle by three corners option available. Thanks. |

Hi. Jason. That was my mistake, completely missed that operation, but, I've generated the rectangle that will become the wheel, entered all the required information and the circle generates, only problem is its about half an inch away from the spokes. When I've generated the rectangle it remains red, when I select 2D the out line is blue, but I can't get the whole rectangle to become blue, is this a problem. I generate the rectangle at a point away from the spoke as indicated in the pdf. Thanks. |

Right, I'm getting on quite well with the first exercise but I'm trying to generate the six spoke pattern of the wheel, everything is okay except there's no 'axis 6' in the design explorer to establish the centre so I can't complete the operation, I've tried clicking on most options but all that's displayed are the three normal axis selections. Thanks in anticipation. |

Flushed by my initial success I've started on the crank assembly in the exercise section. The toggle was straight forward so I started the crank handle but selecting the' viewing and analysis' tab I only get a limited ribbon without the 'Pan' tab I'm supposed to click. All the other ribbons available don't have anything like the options shown in the exercise screen shots, does this mean that all the options required to design the crank assembly are only available when a full licence is purchased after the six month trial? |

The loud noise you may have heard was a large penny dropping! I've been designing some multi diameter, multi counter bored components all afternoon, I now want to know how to create threaded sections!! Thanks for holding my hand for the first nervous steps. |

Today's problem. I've got to the stage of the 6mm through hole. The extrude Boss dialogue box doesn't have the option 'Through All' in the 'Type' drop down box as shown in Fig 13, the only option that looks remotely like it says 'duel depth' which doesn't work. When I type 'Z' into the draft angle it becomes red and disappears when I click okay. Graph paper and G code still looks pretty good!! |

It does work better when you click on the correct circle!! Just as well the tutorial is in monthly instalments!! |

Okay thanks, I'll go back and try again. All this is the reason I'm still a G code man!!!!!!!

Thanks Andrew. How do I produce a solid circle? I think this learning curve might be a tad on the steep side!!!! |

I've been through all the posts here and no one seems to be having the problem I've encountered using the step by step tutorial in this month's MEW. I successfully reach the stage of creating the 25mm circle, however the circle isn't a solid circle but interrupted, when I click the green tick to deactivate sketch the circle disappears and so it will not proceed to the next step. I closed the software and started a new component but the same thing happens each time. I fully appreciate the problem must be the finger controlling the mouse but I would like to know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks. |
Thread: How would this lathe tool be used? |

Very useful for cutting fine multi start threads. Grind back the teeth until you have the number of starts required, set in the tool post then set the lead screw to pitch multiplied by the number starts and cut the multi start thread in one operation. |

I source all my lathe tooling, tool holders, inserts etc from CTC or Alidirect and have had no problems, I am thought reluctant to source milling cutters from China and use the UK supplier APT who are excellent. |
Thread: Gipsy 1 castings |

Hi. Jason. Yep I was told about a set yesterday, but they where long gone, I've got a post up on MEM as well. Might be an opportunity to try my hand at pattern making!!!

I'm looking for a new project for next winter and after trawling through just about every forum and ME site out there its come down to a choice between The Les Chenery De Havilland Gipsy 1, or the Gnome rotary. Having just finished a rotary I fancied a change, so I'm hoping to build the Gipsy, the only problem is the crankcase castings which are as rare as the preverbal hen's teeth. The last mention of the castings on this site was back in 2015, so I wondering if anyone has been successful in sourcing castings since then. Thanks |

Thread: Wooden Propellor |

Hi. Trevor. Its definitely a BR2, but of mixed parenthood! I've spent a couple of months trying to source a prop sympathetic to the original engine and to that end I have contacted numerous suppliers both here and overseas about the sizes of the boss, but the diameter and thickness of the boss was always too small, so I don't intend to compromise the appearance of the engine by using the wrong prop and so I need to find a chap in a shed that's prepared to make one. Hi. Jason. Yes I am he, but for some reason that trail suddenly went cold, he did say that he had over three months work to get through till he might have a window. The prop is to fit a running engine. Thanks for the input. |

Does anyone know of a propeller manufacturer, or chap in a shed, who could make me a bespoke 28 x 10 prop? The problem I'm having with off the peg versions is the hub diameter and boss thickness as it needs to fit a WW1 rotary engine. I can supply a suitable piece of laminated walnut if required. Thanks. |

At the moment its carbide inserts ahead by 1% at 39% followed by own HSS at 38% This is as exciting as the referendum! |
