just had fiber optic cable installed. Its incredible how it works. The fibre is 0.16mm diameter (near enough 0.006". Light as we know travels in straight lines, so how many times must it bounce off the walls of the fibre before it reaches its destination?

Handy storage for sticks of silver solder. Cut some plastic rigid tube (Electrical conduit etc). Glue a cork in one end of the tube and and shape a removable cork for the other end. Affix the suppliers label to the tube showing temperature range etc. Have a tube for each different type.

Oh yes, the smell left behind when someone "pulled the chain" whilst in the station - It was actually a foot pedal if I remember correctly.

Are you restoring it for a museum ?

If you are waiting for wrought iron - you may have to wait a very long time ! Mild steel will most probably be supplied.

If you must use the chest of drawers,

1/ Bolt the lathe down to the table top, do not over tighten as you WILL twist the bed of the ML7.

2/ Screw the chest of drawers to the wall of the shed.

3/ Do everything else others have suggested in due course - but have a bit of fun with the lathe in the meantime.

When I was first married, my Southbend lathe came with me to a small semi with internal garage. The lathe was supported on a couple of 4 x 2 cantilevered bearers high enough for the front of the Alegro to be driven underneath. I carried out several pieces of charged for jobs for a machine tool company. I don't know if I will be castigated for supporting a lathe like that, of for owning an Alegro !

Serial number / model type stamped on the bed just about underneath the tailstock face nearest the operator (Front face ?)

Lead solder is soft and you could scrape a little off with a pen knife. Silver solder is harder, if you cleaned the joint with some wire wool, it would look a very pale gold colour.

The Stuart ST 501 is a low pressure boiler and even lead solder would be acceptable although if starting afresh lead free these days..

Update, 5/32 steam feed pipe, 3/16 OD delivery and cold feed via tin can / 3/16 pipe with cold water. The new check valve with a 5.5mm (7/32) ball still dribbles, so it was back to the check valve with the 3/16 ball (changed from stainless to a Viton ball)

The number 2 injector works fine approx 1/2 pint of cold water in a minute with steam feed at 60 psi.

The next trial will be using warm 60 deg C water - the side tanks on SPEEDY warm up in spite of 2 layers of insulation between tank and boiler.

After that it will be "plumbed in" to the side tanks again.

Has anyone got experience of getting injectors to work with "hot" water ?

Notice the style of the caravans and the "Social distancing". The attached was my 1937 Ruby CCE 954 in about 1967 (First year of compulsory MOT) and me as a young driver. Petrol 4/3 per gallon !!

Probably doesn't help, but I run my NEMA 23 off of a 36volt 5 amp PSU.

Lathe tools ?? No apparent rake angles on top, side or front so I think they have another purpose.

What constitutes to be an aircraft? Are there minimum weights, size etc.

Eg: Is a paper dart an aircraft ? A chuck glider, again a 20p chuck glider sold on the beach as opposed to a competition glider which could be seriously large and heavy.

I suppose all 3 gauges could read high by the same amount.

Simple dead weight pressure test rig. Known weight on a piston of known area. I wonder how often the tyre gauges are checked at the tyre centre. Normal inflation kit is generally abused.

Do you use more than one drill of a certain size at the same time ? If not, get / make a drill stand for just one drill of each size and store the spares back in your tub. When you snap a drill , replace it from your tub. You may wish to have 2 sets of drills, nice sharp precision drills and a second set for rough old stuff. If you do a lot of brass machining, you may need a 3rd set ??
