Thread: Tachometers sensor magnet
15/09/2020 18:22:14

I need to fit a tachometer on a machine in the morning

how do i fit the small button magnet to a shaft?

if i glue it to a mild steel shaft does the steel sap the magnetism ?

Thread: Ideal Guillotine

I worked on the electric versions quite a lot in the past

the manual ones don’t really have any safety features as such

the blades are either carbon steel or high speed Steel on ideals so not hardened

anything you need to know ask away

blade sharpening at a couple of places in sheffield

Thread: Mk1 Colchester student clutch
09/09/2020 19:54:14

The clutch if fitted is outboard of the pulleys away from the headstock

dsc02094 (medium).jpgYou can see it out of focus behind my home made brake...if you have a clutch you cant have a brake usually

08/09/2020 16:11:14

You can have a clutch fitted

does your motor run then when you lift the start handle the spindle starts?

or when you lift the handle does the motor start? And the spindle?

if you don’t have a clutch you should have a brake in the pulley area which could be giving problems

but first I’d look at your drive belt/s

The list of prohibited items is all encompassing there’s hardly anything that they will carry

i can imagine if you sent a glass item and it got damaged then that’s ok you lose. But if they lose the item what was in the package is immaterial...they lost it

Thread: Can anyone supply a lead for grub screws
23/08/2020 13:25:45

For now I’ve punched out some 2mm thick brass pads and the operators will have to drop one of those down the holes before using a normal grub screw

the machine maker wants £12 each for the brass pad ones

23/08/2020 10:51:49

Brian

do you mean drill the grub screw and turn up some brass pads?

can I drill a grub screw?

23/08/2020 10:18:20

I need 20 of these?

5/16 unc with the brass pad

Any ideas?

I still have a very space age looking pack (bright orange with fins) that I bought in 1986 and its still working when I need it.

Thread: Twerps with hats on back to front and no front number plates

There’s quite a few supercars running around South Yorkshire bereft of the front no plate

Thread: What lathe tool for deburring holes?
06/08/2020 16:28:39

When i started this thread i suppose i was looking more for a tool for 45 degree chamfering rather than deburring

anyway after all your thoughts i bought this tool from chesterfield machine tools on eBay....it works a treat and can do perhaps a 3mm internal chamfor.and much larger external chamfor3a17f94f-b230-4ef5-a756-f2ad7ed0618c.jpeg

Thread: Training school auction
06/08/2020 14:22:54

There was a similar auction 2018 in Rotherham with 5 similar lathes and 5 Bridgeport’s

the lathes all went for about £500 each

all the tooling was in big cabinets sold as one lot

so in one cabinet was all the tooling required for 5 lathes

Thread: What lathe tool for deburring holes?
01/08/2020 18:24:22

Jimmy that is a nice tool

maybe look for a sh one

01/08/2020 15:29:09

I use a 45 degree tct tool for relieving sharp edges on external shoulders

is there a tool for internal use?

i know a countersink in the tailstock works but a tool post mounted tool would be ideal.

again a boring bar set over to 45 degrees would work

but I’m after a tool i can just drop on to the QCTP and debur

does such a tool exist?

Thread: Opions sought on using the USB Photo Stick for photo storage
29/07/2020 10:55:33

Are you not able to find your photos and transfer them to any usb stick?

all the photo stick does ..it has a piece of software on it which searches for jpeg files and transfers them for you..

if you can do it yourself it saves lots of money
