Thread: Parcelforce or DPD
28/10/2020 17:02:51

Ketan

as a receiver i do like Parcelforce and DPD best ,the tracking i can almost go and open the door and they are there..

ups every time i have a parcel incoming to be delivered today its always delayed and comes the next day

fedex seem ok

i do like Hermes as a receiver the tracking works well and the couriers are reliable. And i do use them a lot for sending items but when anything goes wrong they are impossible to contact.

Martin c

I too have this problem with BG

i read and suppy reading every month online

the page on bg site lists 3 boxes to fill in gas ,day and night electricity

i take my readings and enter the day and night in the boxes which show a smaller number than this months readings

and it always says error "thats larger than we expect it to be" even though the numbers may only be 200-300 units more than last month

and then takes weeks to sort it out before they send the bill

Thread: Anyone near calne?
03/10/2020 14:54:37

Is there anyone near calne who could pick up a eBay purchase and post it on to me?

£30 for your trouble

Thread: Unusable Tracking Numbers
01/10/2020 15:04:13

Tracking numbers for Royal Mail don’t work until the parcel gets delivered

so until then it just says tracking number provided

unless its a fully tracked service like special delivery

Thread: Vacuum Pump Advice Please!
24/09/2020 19:15:16

I’m sure that the fibre vanes need lubing

small offset machines used to have “Gast “ pumps which had fibre vanes and a small (50ml) glass jar on the inlet side with a pipe cleaner into the oil and inlet to lube the vanes

Thread: What sort of light source to use a strobe disc?
24/09/2020 17:50:27

Well this guy insists he uses a desk lamp with a filament lamp in...has he got superhuman vision so he see a bulb cooling and heating 50 times a second?

and also in factories he wired filament bulbs across the 3 phase to avoid strobing...which again I’ve never heard of..other than to balance the load... fluorescents yes but not GLS bulbs

What sort of illuminators were used in record turntables?

Thread: Vacuum Pump Advice Please!
24/09/2020 17:33:52

I do deal with a lot of pumps like this in the print industry and never considered them to be high vacuum

usually the ones i work with are dry with carbon vanes

older ones were steel bladed running with oil and an oil separator a bit like a hydro vane pump

anyway check that the vanes are free to slide in and out and don’t expect much of a vacuum with it..

Thread: What sort of light source to use a strobe disc?
24/09/2020 17:26:51

In a light hearted discussion on a woodworking forum what sorts of a light source do you need to use a stobe disc or indeed not to use near rotating machinery?

one chap ( a very respected member) insists a standard filament lamp will suffice?

I say anything other than a filament lamp....

Nothing wrong with putting cash only for collection items

you have to offer paypal you dont have to accept it

it would limit your buyers immensely if you didnt take paypal for postable items

Thread: Blowtorch problems
19/09/2020 20:19:33

I’ve ordered a repair kit @ £29 rather than a new torch at £95

the only bit it doesn’t include is the black body casting by the looks of the kit

Any ideas why my rothenburger blowtorch has suddenly started refusing to ignite in spite of what looks like a good spark and also the flame is like this

de2758dc-f0ea-4b8a-a040-52642d95f3a4.jpeg

Rather than as before the flame went down to the end of the nozzle

it just started doing this having been fine for well over 6 years

Thread: Ideal Guillotine

Bill

the guillotine in my video actually tried to cut through a steel ruler and it shattered the tungsten blade about 4 inches in length

blades are about £1200 so expensive mistake

ruler survived

never seen any wrong material detectors on any paper cutting guillotines

Thread: Tachometers sensor magnet
17/09/2020 16:30:57

I did the job today just ground a flat on a 20mm silver steel shaft and placed the magnet and it stays there even at 1000rpm

its been running an hour or so now

I had it in my head that a magnet would have need putting in a non ferrous collar to work adequately

thanks for all the help with this

Thread: Ideal Guillotine
17/09/2020 16:26:34

I was at one of my customers and did a short video of a real sized paper cutting guillotine

this is a polar mohr Guillotine with side lifts air tables jogger and palpating attachments

see how easily the operator moves around perhaps 80 kg of paper and the power with which the machine cuts.

this has a 5kw motor spinning up a flywheel weighing 300 kg

the knife in this one is a tungsten tipped blade which lasts about 2 weeks whereas a HSS one would only last a day or so

i don’t know whether i can post links now but search on YouTube for “polar guillotine sheffield”

Can i post links to my video’s?
