Thread: Oddball inverter
13/04/2021 08:33:11

Is it a 400v inverter? Rather than a 200v one ..is it expecting 3 phase in? Some will run on 240v on 2 phases

13/04/2021 07:23:52

That’s strange I’ve never seen a VFD where the input terminals are marked R,S,T usually they are L1,L2,L3 if 3 phase or L1,N if single

Thread: Bandsaw - wood and metal ?
11/04/2021 15:16:17

Many of the older startrite machines say s14,18,24 have 10 speeds with 5 belt positions and a 2 speed gearbox they will happily cut anything.

but I wouldn’t want to stand there cutting 5” of steel with it

i have a s14 5 and cut alloy plate regularly on it up to 3 inch thick

but mainly i use it for woodwork and a 4x6 bandsaw for metal stock

Thread: How do I remove this small bearing? And the one behind it.
09/04/2021 13:23:07

I would drill 2 small holes behind the bearings in the casting at centres of 28mm so a pin punch can knock them out together using the outer races

Can you talk us through your mass production process and what tools fixtures you used?

Thread: Taps with plus sizes?
31/03/2021 17:18:45

And are galvanised bolts common in m18?

31/03/2021 16:58:24

I was browsing eBay looking for a new tap and noticed a few 18mm x 1.5 taps with + 004” and + 0.24 after the size

i must confess i had not seen such before

why have an oversize tap?...only seemed to be for 18mm that I’ve seen

Thread: Advice acquiring single phase motor for Elliott Pillar Drill
31/03/2021 16:55:20

Once you have used a drilling machine with variable speed you would never go back to a belt change type.

I’d agree with thomas fit an inverter for about £100 all in you wouldn’t regret it

keep your original motor and go from there

Thread: There may be a delay in some deliveries ...

https://www.wilhelmsen.com/tollcalculators/suez-toll-calculator/

Putting some figures into here seem to suggest about 13,500 $ which doesn’t seem bad so less than a $ per container

29/03/2021 18:27:22

Has anyone any idea of the sort of charge to transit the Suez Canal? With 20,000 containers on it what sort of price for each? £5 makes it £100k. £50 makes it £1m

Thread: WHAT IS IT ?
28/03/2021 16:01:57

My BIL had a look and suggested imperial weights going down to drams which is why some of the fractions have + 2 (say)after them that figure is drams

Thread: Excellent Chinese Chuck
27/03/2021 15:18:28

Thread: That little elf under the workbench again
20/03/2021 16:13:35

My elf must be great big goblin

i’ve spent 2 hours looking for a 1-3/8ths” tap 5 inches long and best part of a kilo

had a break to look for a new one on eBay then went armed with a torch and there it was lurking under a rotary table

Thread: chinese lathe
13/03/2021 17:04:01

I’m sure that it looks ok your tailstock locates on the left hand “v”

Thread: What’s this tap? Thread form?
10/03/2021 17:10:43

Thank you split pin

10/03/2021 17:02:32

I found in my large taps drawer and have being using this tap...

theres no markings on it but it measures 1 .31 “across the peaks and pitch is 11 tpi

so i can see that its a 1 5/16 11tpi and if i cut a 55 degree male part it screw perfectly into a hole tapped with this tap.

but what purpose would it have originally served

all my books don’t seem to have any taps of 1 5/16 diameter
