Thread: Which Lathe
10/05/2010 20:28:56
Hi Jason

No not a Traction Engine.

I have some 28" lengthz of 1.5" steel that I need to thread very accurately.

I will mount a Spider both front and rear of headstock spindle  then adjust till I get ,.0005" runout

This will be an ongoing project.

Hi
I am looking to move up from my present Myford Super 7.

I need a lathe with at least 1.75" bore in the spindle.

Suggestions on lathes and rough estimate on what I am looking at cost wise would be appreciated.

Hi John

I have just stripped my Myford Collet Chuck and there should be * ball bearing (one in each hole)
Thread: Imported Lathes - Which one
01/03/2010 17:05:08
We are looking for a lathe for our workshop at work, hence the question.

I had seen Kent and Grizzly lathes in the USA but have not seen the equivelant models here.

I am leaning toward finding a secondhand Harrison M300 as I have heard mostly good things about them.

We need about 40mm through the spindle.
01/03/2010 07:57:10

There are a number of imported lathes available these day's and I wondered which are the better ones.

I realise you get what you pay for but was interested in members experiences

My 1958 vintage Myford is still going strong with most spares still available and i wonder how many of the imports have the same quality of build.
Thread: Myford Collet Chuck
26/02/2010 16:06:59
as there has been no interest from members I have list the L A C T on ebay and will follow Davids advice and list the Hardinge Collets seperately
17/02/2010 14:54:47
Thank you for the advice David.

I just counted up and there are 29 Collets to go with the chuck

I will put it in the classified section as I would prefer it to go to a member and save the ebay and PayPal charges
Thread: Subscription and delivery of MEW

Thread: Myford Collet Chuck
14/02/2010 14:25:24
Thank you David.

I am new to Model Engineering and am restoring a 1955 vintage Super 7

The collet chuck and collets is not something I envisage using so will be putting it up for sale.

As you can see there is some damage to the threaded mounting collar.
14/02/2010 11:19:22
It is the lever action collet chuck
09/02/2010 17:12:34

Amongst the tooling with the Myford Super 7 I purchased is a genuine myford collet chuck with a large number of Hardinge Collets.

This is NOT in it's first flush of youth and I was wondering what would be a fair price to ask for it in the classified section.

I will count up the number of collets and take a photo once I can get out to my workshop.
Thread: 2" Tee Bolt
03/02/2010 12:38:08

Hi

I am trying to locate a 2" Tee Bolt for a Myford Swivelling Vertical Slide.

I tried Myford but they only stock parts for the later 2 bolt fixing model.

This is the centre bolt to secure the slide to the carriage.

As my lathe is now stripped for overhaul I was hoping to buy one rather than have to wait and machine one up.

Thread: 2MT Test Bar
27/01/2010 12:42:17
Thanks to all

I have ordered one from RDG
But I will get a friend to run it between centres to sest for accuracy

Does anyone know where I can purchase a No2 MT Test bar as used in the Rebuild of a Super 7 in MEW 139

Thank you
Thread: Help needed
25/01/2010 12:13:19
Hi Niloch

My Serial No is SK8171 which is 1955 according to Myford

Yes economy of scale would work in sending 2 at the same time.

If you are intersted I can palletise and ship using my company account with a carrier.

We can also load and unload pallet with forklift.

Alternatively we could share costs and drive up and collect once they are done

I purchased my lathe for £1200  but it included a number of extras including a Myford Collet chuck and collets. so I am guessing the price was about right

Thanks Keith

I will check back issues.

I am new to Model Engineering and it looks like I am taking the hard route to learning.

I  bought a Myford Super 7 with Q/C gearbox but should have taken someone more knowlegeable with me.

On closer inspection there is a full restoration needed.

I have refurbished the stand and replaced the electric motor.

Now I plan to completely strip it and send bed and carriage off to myfords for a regrind.

whilst stripped down I plan on a complete  repaint as well.

If there are any members in the Fareham Hampshire area that can offer assistance or a advice please let me know.
