Johan, I dont like the sound of you using hydrogen as a gas to run your engine on ? Pure hydrogen is safe but any air added to it makes it an explosive mixture , be very careful and play safe.

Fizzy, take note what Jason and Michael are telling you or you could waste a lot of good work you have done and money . It dont make any difference about 200 bar of oxy I doubt if you can keep a flame in such a small space as the firebox , but good luck if you want to try. Regards Bill.

Niloch, I think you will find if you put cellulose on anything thats not cellulose it will orange peel , you could try synthetic which always cured the problem when cellulose would'nt take. Another way is get a tin of household paint ( I always used Leyland) so long as its oil based, put it in an old saucepan heat it up till it bubbles stick it in the gun and spray while its hot. Iv'e never had a problem with that painting over anything and its a cheap way. Bill

Kwil,you were right about Guy Martin , what a rider and what bad luck for the bike to stop so near the end of the race, im sure we will hear a lot more of this young man. Thanks for your post I did'nt know it was on tv.

THank you my friends, I took up this hobby when I retired and if I live to 100 will always class myself as an amateur at the side of most of you. I thought a hobby was all about enjoyment , thank goodness Donald duc ooops sorry Wittman cant take the enjoyment away even if some of us are not perfect like him.

Hi Paul,
             We have a member known as Windy ,aka Paul who was making a turbine last year to drive a model speed boat , the last pictures I saw were the test nozzels he had made .I think he could help you .  I cannot see why you need anything running at 90,000 rpm ? if you need more power increase the number of stages , I take it you know about the higher the pressure the greater the temperature = more work. I will drop Windy a line and see if he will help you im sure he will.

              As regards trains going faster? the passenger trains  now are only about eight light weight cars long thats why if you see 2 yellows you have to be getting hold of them with the brake or you wont stop at the red, in the steam days the breakfast car left Doncaster with 15 cars on counted as 30 tons per car and stopped in Retford 17 miles away  171/2 minutes later. Some of these engines on the GNR were 40 and 50 years old and still doing what they were built to do at over 100 mph.
 
        Regards the old goods trains being slow? a lot of those engines were only built to do 40 mph but could pull what would take 3 or 4 diesels or electrics to do now.
      When the first diesels came into service if one  failed and a steam engine was put on it had to be a lower class engine so it didnt show the diesel up. If the train is on an up gradient you should stop with a tight coupling so the train will not run back , it is only on the level or down gradients you hear the snatch of the couplings as the train starts.
       Been there done that we didnt have t shirts in those days.

Well my friends very interesting to know what you all pass your time  with, I come from a woodworking back ground and am a newby to this hobby. I always wanted a metal lathe and as planned when I retired I got myself one, but ,yes theres always a but as all you retired people will know when you retire there is less hours in the day , I should have had the lathe when I was working when I had time for eveything. A great hobby I enjoy every minute I can spend at it, Thank you all for the knowledge in the forums they are a gold mine.

Hi All, A good thread this, we have had all the advantages of 3ph but I noticed no one said wether it is cheaper or dearer to run 3ph than 1ph.
