The company I used back in the '50's, that's 1950's not 1850's It was brilliant watching how they did the business on a giant steam receiver in a power station. Len. P.

Ronan, I know it doesn't help you but on my M1 the knee travels right down to the bottom of the vertical dovetail ( less 1.25 " when it hits the end stop). It is fully engaged all the way. Len. P.

Thread: Extra Special Subscription Gift for Model Engineers’ Workshop |
17/11/2013 21:48:58 |
So David, "While stocks last" as stated in the latest MEW sounds a bit ominous. If I extend my subscription, pay the extra money and stock runs out , what then? Will I get a refund offered? Len. P.

Thread: Latching Footswitch |

Like you Neil, Ordered Sunday night, arrived by next morning's post. Cost of order, £3.16. I think free postage is for online orders only but I stand to be corrected on that. Some of their special offers are incredible.

What you may not have realised is that delivery is free, normally it would be about £700 or there about.

Thread: Prescription Safety Glasses |
16/10/2013 10:05:48 |
The last prescription safety glasses I had, about two years ago, were from Boots Opticians. They were single vision and made by "Parmelee" ( see their website ) Boots will show you what they do, there's quite a range for different occupations, Mine cost £35 at the time, it wasn't a special offer either. Called in to get some diesel from Sainsburys this morning and I spotted what appeared to be a bargain at the checkout. It is a 9 LED torch with a flexible legged tripod. It's extremely well made, basically from aluminium alloy tube. A cartridge inside accepts 3 AAA batteries (supplied) I clipped it to the main column of my Meddings drill to focus on the drill tip when drilling. It projects a quite powerful beam of light and could be quite a useful addition to the workshop machine tools. Don't know why the first image clicked went in last. Anyway that's it for now, don't all rush. Len. P.

Morning all, Russell, my setup is with Win 7. When I logged in just now the posting window was there staring at me, I didn't have to faff around to get it. Len. P.

I tried logging out of the "forum" then logging back in again and it seems to have corrected itself. I don't know how long it will last though! Len. P.

Evening all, Just a small query. I can't post messages in Firefox (23-0-01 version), the posting window does not appear but it's O.K. in IE from which I'm posting this message. I've had a ferret around in Firefox tools/options but can't locate a solution. Can anybody help me please? Len.P.
P.S. This request was attached to another thread about small rotary tables but I thought I'd better make a separate issue of it before it gets lost in the ether!!

Thread: Small rotary tables |
28/08/2013 19:52:17 |
Evening Trebor, You're not a sweet factory are you? I'm right in the middle of making some double bow windsor chairs at the moment (as you are interested I've attached an image) so the myford lathe is out of action for a while. As soon as it is convenient I will set the Rotary Table/Angle Plate up and post some images for you. It could be as early as next week. Len. P. P.S. I've had to post this response in IE as I can't get the reply box to appear on Firefox, has anybody any ideas? |
