I use "do not track plus" I don't know if that puts off these guys as allegedly with DNTP they don't get any useful info about you, or your presence. After watching the DNTP counter for a while most sites seem to pass your info on to at least two others but one site I visit allegedly passes my whereabouts on to 15 others! And all to try and sell me something I'm not going to buy anyway. What a waste of effort. |

Thread: MEW 200th issue |
23/10/2012 23:37:22 |
Well as I have already said I'll go along with a CNC only 200th edition. Most new machines will be CNC by the 300th anyway. Or how about John Stevenson in a bikini on the front cover. If nothing else it will give him an excuse to have a decent shave for once. |

<Please read previous posts> Apologies I have not read all posts. My post was tongue-in-cheek but was written with ways of increasing readership and circulation in mind. Previously it has been stated that sales increase with an attractive cover picture, an old motorbike or car for instance. Just look at the last two cover pictures, and I mean no disrespect, they are examples of boring. So to get new readers we need to give them something of interest. Now you old hands get all you want and you don't want it any other way. However I am a subscriber and see no issues with a little change. I can stomach CNC, I could wear a whole issue of MEW given over to CNC because I find it interesting. So to get in new readers we need something attractive and different and interesting on the front cover. A nice steam engine would suit the purpose admirably. BTW my tongue-in-cheek part I referred to earlier did of course relate to the 'lots of brass' comment. I would of course accept lots of chromium. |

I see the editor is looking for ideas to put in the 200th edition. What immediately occurred to me was how about a nice 12 part series on "Building your first steam engine". Something with plenty of brass in it so you can polish it up and put it on the sideboard. Smashing. |

<Would this install and run on a Raspberry Pi ???> There is a caveat in LinuxCNC requirements that video and system memory should be separate ie not shared in system memory. The way things are going with RasPi though someone will crack it. |

Having the spindle cover open a nat's whisker. It was only when going through the items with the Warco help-line and he said, 'yes but have you pushed it shut?'. I tried again, it moved a whisker and the mill sprang into life. |

Thanks for that Martin, too much reliance on my Firefox checker on my part. What on earth does SCAYT mean? <didn't tell me how to drive it either> Well as I said John I am not the sharpest tool in my box but ...
I don't want the manual to tell me how to turn or mill (that is why I buy MEW <s> Which is what they did in the mill manual as there isn't a circuit diagram in there. To offset this though they include a picture of a different model mill for some reason. I am perfectly happy with the lathe and mill though. |

<Ketan at ARC puts build manuals on the web site> I found the manual for the C3. What about Arc's operation manuals though John, any good? Maybe we need a new thread, 'Best UK mauanuals'. My warco manuals (I have a lathe and mill) don't tell you how to start the macine. When I received both machines I had to phone them up to find out how to start them. It's obvious now of course, but at the time this fool couldn't do it! |

David you missed this in the second paragraph ... Prostate cancer is the 4th most common cancer in the UK I had a customer the same age as me who died from prostate cancer. I didn't get tested. A few years later I had a PSA test as part of a series of tests, I had prostate cancer. I didn't have any symptoms. I had mine removed by keyhole surgery and been OK since, 8 years clear. If you are over 50 get tested, just ask your surgery for a test. Normal level is around 4, mine was 12. Derry. |

<since when is reporting a problem whinging> Apologies, I was being dramatic. I see too much of it's a bad website, why can't Dave sort it out, why don't I get a free gift, not more CAD/CAM surely or if I see another Myford article I'll scream. Rhetorical questions. When after all it's one of the most interesting and enjoyable sites to visit. |

I hate the British at the moment, all they want to do is whinge and moan. That's my whinging and moaning done for tonight. But to those that are having problems, if someone here is using the same broswer as you and not having problems what do you think that suggests? Rhetorical question. I am running Firefox with no problems currently. The only problem I had in the past was the login box too large for it's own box. |
