Jason, In answer to your question all of the drawings / descriptions I have seen go for case hardening which is how both my filing rests were made |

I have been using two filing rests for goodness knows how long both with hardened rollers and have never had trouble with blunting files, possibly you might be dwelling on the point where the file has done its work and you need to move onto the next flat etc. |

definitely a single point cutter of some sort, be it a lathe tool or single hole countersink (deburrer) but also as said before drop the rpm. |

hope the pics tell the story, the gear with a plain section is moved from cross shaft to vertical shaft using the same rachet mech to operate both. |

sorry Chris but you need to have a good look at GHTs rear tool post design, it does no strain the T slot as everything is sandwiched together making it an extremely rigid affair. Funny how there hasn't been any designs to supersede it!!! |
