Any of you guys work(ed) in the commercial furniture industry because I would like to know if they make a special design for cafes with one leg slightly shorter than the other, every table I have ever come across in a cafe wobbles. Bill D. Try cafes that only have tables with three legs that way they will not wobble or as Grindstone Cowboy says beermats are your friend |

For the keyway in the hardwood why not make a jig and use a wood router to cut it should not be too difficult. |

Thread: Model paints. |
24/02/2020 13:56:36 |
I have used both types of paint, even though they are both acrylic does not mean they are the same it is just the that they tend to be water-based paints but the mixture is totally different. As Jason mentioned artist acrylics need a flow aid or reducer. If you use water it will quickly make opaque paints transparent. I use airbrush paints, artist paints and also the model paints in acrylic and would not consider artist type paints for a model. It is all down to how each is manufactured and for the material they are designed to work on. So as you can see from the many posts here they are not all made equal.

Thread: Locomotive control extension |

A square tube with a square bar that slides inside and an UJ joint at either end will allow for the narrowing and expanding of the gap but still allow for it to be rotated |
20/02/2020 10:30:43 |
HERE are some long props that I found up to 508mm long. I drilled a hole in some of mine and soldered an upright tube to it and then fixed a small paint tin to the top of that this allowed for lubrication of the tubes. Granted your use of them will not involve the same rotation speed a model boat needs. |
20/02/2020 10:02:19 |
Have you thought of a couple of long model boat prop shafts and the UJ joints that you can get to suit they would be OK for most of the joints but not the one near the firebox as they have plastic in them.

The stupid plain bronze bearing as you put it is actually really good as you will always be able to adjust its fit with the two nuts on the other end. Quite agree I have the same arrangement on my woodturning lathe and have only ever needed to adjust them three times in the last five years as I keep it correctly oiled. And it gets a lot of use. |

Nice little grey handles Derek, what are they made of? Jim They are from kitchen worktop material called Corian |
13/02/2020 14:27:35 |
A little while ago I asked about handles for this vice. Anyway I started this over a week ago before the winds took the roof off my woodshed anyway while waiting for materials for that I took the opportunity to complete the handles, I decided to go for a much easier solution, the little grey handles spin on the handles. |
Thread: Wood store |

This is not the first time I have found something I forgot I had. And like many I can lose something to only find it in plain sight. |
11/02/2020 13:26:23 |
During the winds, I lost the roof of one of my shed which housed my wood. Over the last couple of days managed to clear it out and decided that a total rebuild will be the better option as the bottom is starting to rot can't complain it has been there a very long time. Anyway during the emptying, I was very surprised to find some long lost pieces of Ali hidden behind some sheet material. The large sheet is 33" X 38" to give an idea of the size. the smaller piece I have been cutting pieces off for various projects. The other sheet I was given and is stainless steel How many of us really know what we have squirrelled away hidden behind different places, and what is more how many have ordered stuff to find that we already had it. |
