Thread: UK Made Boilers |

If the boilers are made to BS 2790 there is a requirement under Section 7.0 to provide drawings, documents, data sheets and test certificates. If these were provided the boilers may be accepted although limited to 700 bar operation. Both of the ASBSC codes for boiler limit the operating pressure to 700 bar.. Let's see, 700 x 14.504.............. |

Thread: Material for Collet Holder |

I made an ER 25 Collet holder EN1A some years ago, it proved perfectly satisfactory. I'd avoid cast iron for the same reasons everyone else has given. No stupid questions, you know the rest....... |

I'd go to a specialist motor/ motorcycle engineering firm that employs a good welder. They would have all the options and could select the most appropriate repair technique. There's a very good one near Bedford with which I have no connection other than as a satisfied customer. |

I've stopped going to the IOM TT because I don't want to be there when (not if) someone gets killed. |
Thread: A poor early Christmas present. |

I bought my QCTP from Myford many years ago. I have had to return several pattern tool holders as they did not fit. One of the common faults is that the hole for the height adjusting stud is too close to the rear face of the holder and consequently, the knurled nut fouls the rotating clamp on the block. Some can be jobbed by turning down the knurled nut. Others just wont go on at all, as the angles and clearances of the slot and v's are incompatible. I took my Myford supplied block to MEX this year and tried the RDG offerings. Slightly tighter than the originals but OK. I bought a couple, may buy some more at another show, after trying them first. |

Harrogate ME Show 2023, March 10th & 11th. I see that there is a Yorkshire Event Centre web page announcing this show. There's also a brief mention of it in the latest ME. Anyone know more? |

Easy to retrospectively pick apart decisions made during an unprecedented crisis. The media were screaming for something to be done to resolve the PPE shortage, the Civil Service were operating at a glacial rate and the usual professional critics were poised to find fault. |

Interesting discussion. In the early 70s, I cured a rattle from the o/s front wheel of my brother-in-law's Morris Traveller by taking the hub cap off and recovering the snapped of stud that had fallen victim to a pneumatic wrench. Changed the studs on all four wheels. |
Thread: Harrogate Showground |

I always found that the queues to get through Harrogate gave my old Satnav plenty of time to update! Never had a problem finding Doncaster racecourse, excellent fish & chip restaurant just across the road too. |

I wonder if anyone else is interested to know if the "well known UK based professional boiler manufacturer" mentioned by Luker is still in business? I only know of two firms that advertise this type of construction, maybe there are others. Andy |
Thread: Rail Card Renewals |
24/08/2022 12:24:55 |
I've had good use from my railcard. Unfortunately, I don't think the railways are viable in the long term, too useful as a political football to some and for others, an unfair burden on the taxpayers who have little or no access but have to contribute to subsidies. |
Thread: Do you "still" enjoy driving? |

Do I detect a misunderstanding? Public roads aren't provided for motorists to have fun on and being a good pilot doesn't make one a good driver Sound of many giggling motorcyclists...... |

All too often when someone says, "OK climate change is a thing but re we really sure it is all down to CO2 / greenhouse gases or are there other mechanisms also at work?", someone else will *tar that person as a denier. * "Traduce" would be more accurate. |
