If you missed them or haven't seen them for a while they are worth watching.
David.

If you're going to do it be sure to get the thin (1mm) cutting discs. Much less effort!

If you're near Nottingham I have all the cold black chemicals for steel, which does not involve heating.

I use this stuff quite a bit. If it's what I think (a foil strip with cool or warm whit leds every 25mm or so) then it is very useful. Possible uses could include machine lighting, lighting sheves and cupboards etc. It generally has a self adhesive back so is quite easy to fit and it costs bugger all to run.

Thanks in advance.

As I understand it the big jump in price is for the AC to do aluminium so I think you can get something within your budget but I'm no expert.

The tube used for making hydraulic cylinders is seamless and I'm sure you can get it in stainless. I have used it with no finishing (of the bore) to make a pneumatic cylinder. A quick google search for - Hydraulic tube found this- http://www.steelexpress.co.uk/non-ferrous/stainless-steel-tube.html . I'm sure there will be others.
Good luck.

Thread: DRO on a Mill/Drill?
23/09/2011 22:23:38
Hi Paul
I used a DRO from machine DRO on my BH 600 lathe. I had it for 5 years and never had any trouble with it. Much of what I make ( I use my workshop as part of my business ) has to be made in a hurry and off the cuff, I found that things were generally much more accurate and much faster to make. I have heard comments that some of the vernier type scales can lose accuracy as the battery weakens so that would tend to discourage me from going down that route. my bridgeport has a newall system on it and I don't think I could manage without it.
I have sold the BH 600 and have not yet fitted the DRO (which I took off) to the new lathe a job which I MUST get round to!

I'm sure that John is talking about the metrology lab of a company or government dept and so wouldn't be grinding away at someone's personal property.

If you can find details of the spring then there is a company in Nottingham called Kato Entex who will most likely have it in stock. You will need to know the diameter of the wire as well. I have in the past bought a range of springs around my best guess as they are not particularly expensive and they have a minimum order (£3-00 I think)

A couple of years ago at one of the 'Mach' exhibitions I talked to a rep from a company who specialised in 'fluid deburring'. It was very impressive I'll see if I can dig out the info on it.

You're all hypocrites using your fancy lathes and milling machines. I'm currently working on a 1/4 scale model of the Titanic and am using nothing but an old file, a hammer and cold chisel.
It has been tough going but after 3 months I've already done 132 of the 3,000,000 rivets that I need.
Slightly off topic does anyone know where I can get suitable lumps of cast iron for the engine blocks?
