Thread: Water pump dimensions
20/08/2019 22:26:09

Thanks for the replies.yes I will now go ahead with 1/4" offset on the eccentric. The eccentric dimensions on the drawing are wrong then. Thank god for that. I've fabricated the body, but did not start on the eccentric yet. smiley

Hi, On my 2 in D & NY Traction Engine that i'm building I seem to have a problem with the water pump dimensions. That or I missing something. The water pump plunger is described as 3/8" bore with a stroke of 1/2" . When I look at the eccentric drawing, the offset from the centre of the drive shaft to the centre of the eccentric is shown as 1/2" To me that gives a stroke of 1". If that is right, then the plunger dimensions are wrong because at a 1" stroke the graphite packing on the plunger will come out of the bore. Of course, I could be completely wrong. So can any one help me please.

Cheers Garry

Hi, Some help please. The traction engine i'm building (D & NY in 2in scale) dose not have any drawings for the fire door. I was wondering if anybody can send me some dimensions etc. I know I could work some thing out myself, but things like the vent holes in the door would be a guess.

Thanks Garry

Thanks for the replies. I'm kind of hoping he might see this and make contact with me. But I'm not holding my breath.

Hi everyone
Please can I have some advice about what to do about the following situation.
About 18 months ago I paid a Model Engineering supplier a lot of money to supply me with all the parts and castings for me to build a 2 in scale Traction Engine. After much toing and froing with phone calls and emails and lots of excuses, I eventually started getting bits and pieces sent to me. So far I have only received about half of what I ordered. Time is now dragging on and I’m not getting answers to my emails for weeks (if any) and when he does answer them it’s the same old excuses. I’m now sick and tired of him messing me about, and want to take action in getting the money that is owed to me, back. (Legal action) It’s quite difficult for me to visit him as I live in Jersey.
Please can anyone help or give advice. If any one wants to contact me off forum, then my email is [email protected]
Thanks

Thread: Painting
21/05/2019 16:45:37

Thanks for reply's. I already have that book. And very good it is. Recommend it to everybody who is painting their models. Jason, quite surprised that the parts you mentioned are not glossy. Is a full gloss just for show case models.

21/05/2019 15:47:01

Hi, I'm thinking ahead for the types of paint and finishes for my 2 in scale traction engine. Can someone tell me if I should use enamel or polyurethane synthetic on the Boiler and hornplates, and should it be full gloss, semi gloss or satin.

Thanks

Thread: Cylinder mounting.
12/05/2019 14:37:14

Thanks Jason, that makes it a lot easier to do than a load of blind holes with not much depth.

12/05/2019 11:22:37

Thanks Mike. That's what I would like to do my self but wasn't sure if doing it that way would tell the pressure in the boiler to tear along the dotted lines. ( Stud holes) !! embarrassed

12/05/2019 10:49:55

Hi, I'm currently building the D & NY in 2in scale. My question is to do with the mounting of the cylinder casting to the boiler. The boiler has the extra copper plate silver soldered to the outside where the cylinder is mounted. But do the cylinder mounting bolts/studs go into blind holes, or is it ok to drill right through and then use studs. It just seems that there is not enough thickness of the plate to use blind holes. Can someone please advise me.

Thanks

Thread: Keyway steel
18/04/2019 13:30:44

Thanks all, I think I will use ordinary steel.

18/04/2019 09:45:57

I thought key steel was harder than ordinary steel. Otherwise I can make all my keys from my own stock.

18/04/2019 08:53:14

Hi, I'm trying find a supplier of key steel 3/16 rectangular and 5/32 square. Can anyone help please.

Thanks

Hello,

I’m currently building the 2 in Durham & North Yorkshire traction engine. Blackgates Engineering have supplied me with the various gears, but can no longer supply the set of 5 compensating gears as the supplier has retired. Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of finished gears.

Many thanks

Garry

Thread: Milling a T slot ??
16/01/2019 10:04:58

Thanks Jason, am now looking on the web for a cutter.

16/01/2019 09:38:00

Hi John,Thanks for the reply. I think I be using a T slot, I just wanted to know if this was the right way to go, or if there was another way of doing this.
